A new leak about FIFA 23 claims that there could be fewer Icon cards in the latest installment. The reason for this would be downgrades of some legends.
In FIFA Ultimate Team, there has been the problem of too many Icons for years, which cannot keep up with the increasingly stronger special cards after a certain period.
Now a leak shows that EA might finally tackle the problem. But perhaps differently than expected. They seem to want to weaken the Icon cards rather than bring more strong Icons.
What kind of leak is this? The well-known FUT leaker Fut Sheriff has published a leak (via Twitter) claiming that certain Icon cards in FUT 23 could be downgraded to Hero cards.
This would mean that there would be fewer Icons and the downgraded players would only have one Hero card instead of the previous three Icon cards in the game.
The FUT Heroes are a kind of “Light Icons.” They represent really strong players from the past who became fan favorites. These cards also possess exceptional chemistry attributes, but only fit with cards from the same league.
What would the impacts be? Although the supposed downgrades for the affected stars are initially not good news, the downgrades could have positive effects for FUT players.
Many Icons in recent years, despite their well-known names and good stats, were simply not good enough.
If they now become Hero cards, they would be more affordable, and FUT players who open an Icon pack wouldn’t have to worry about pulling one of the very weak Icons.
Icon cards that could become FUT Heroes
These Icons could become Heroes: Besides Jay-Jay Okocha, Fut Sheriff also mentions a downgrade for the former Japanese offensive star Hidetoshi Nakata (via Twitter). He has always felt like a liability for many FUT players when pulled.
There are already a few suggestions for downgrades. For example, Vienna1993 (via Twitter) wishes for new Hero cards for these legends:

- Hernandez
- Trezeguet
- Vieiri
- Litmanen
- Essien
- Guardiola
- Gattuso
- Inzaghi
- Suker
- Petit
