The successor to FIFA 22 will apparently change how you can use your players in Ultimate Team. This is likely to have an impact on the formations in FIFA 23.
Where does the leak come from? The leak comes from Twitter user “FutSheriff”, who has proven to be particularly reliable with respect to events and new cards during FIFA 22.
On his channel, the leaker explains that FIFA 23 will likely introduce a change to Ultimate Team. Accordingly, the “Position Modifiers” are set to be changed.
This is how it has been so far: Currently, in FUT, there are various position modifiers – for example, from Striker (ST) to Central Attacking Midfielder (CAM), or also Left Winger (LW) to Left Midfielder (LM).
There are plenty of cards that could generally be used for any player, as long as he had the corresponding position on the card. With a lot of shuffling, you could even use a Mbappé as a Central Defensive Midfielder – which is nonsense from a real football perspective, but can be useful in terms of FUT chemistry.
Leak shows: Position changes will be more realistic
This is how it is supposed to be now: Instead of numerous modifiers, according to FutSheriff, FIFA 23 will only have a single modifier card that can be applied individually to each player.
However, these are not supposed to allow any position you want, but rather be based on the respective player. This would mean: Each player would have secondary positions in FUT 23 in addition to his normal position that he could switch to.
We already know these positions from Career Mode, where players often come with possible secondary positions.
How could this work? Let’s take the example of Mbappé: The forward has the positions “ST” and “LW” in Career Mode. He can thus be positioned as a forward, but can also switch to the wing.
This would now also be possible in FUT via the new modifier card and would open up entirely new possibilities in terms of formations – as there is currently no switch card for these positions. In the CDM, where he is sometimes found now, he is unlikely to appear there in the future, as this is none of his secondary positions.
Overall, this feature could bring a decent amount of realism to FUT if it is implemented as described. For some players, it would allow more freedom in position management, which could enable new teams. At the same time, it also takes away some options and you can’t push players into completely absurd positions as easily.
It should be noted that this is currently just a leak, not official information. Whether this feature will make it into the game as described and then be used as anticipated remains to be seen.
