A completely insane bug in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team allowed players to endlessly rake in coins and free cards. We clarify what happened yesterday.
What if you could simply have endless coins and top cards in Ultimate Team? The answer: it leads to massive chaos. And that’s exactly what happened yesterday in FUT 23.
The bug that made it possible: An absolutely crazy glitch occurred on September 13, 2023, which allowed players to earn coins while discarding cards, but not lose the cards. A process that could be infinitely repeated due to the glitch, filling the FUT accounts of many players significantly.
Additionally, it was possible to complete the most expensive SBCs (Squad Building Challenges) without the submitted cards disappearing from your club. The profit: Numerous packs and insanely strong SBC cards like Cristiano Ronaldo (99), Thierry Henry (99), or Harry Kane (99).
Quickly, the glitch spread on Reddit and many players reported their experiences:
- Piggy9287: “I made just a million coins in 13 minutes, that’s insane.
- wallis2011: “I didn’t make that many coins (about 200,000), but I got damn many 86×10 packs, so I never have to grind again.
- Grv7Plays: “I got EVERYTHING I wanted. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi, Bellingham and 20 86×10 packs, 10 85×10 packs, 1 82×100 pack.
EA fixes the bug with a hotfix: After a few hours, the great gold rush in Ultimate Team was already over. EA rolled out a hotfix and the bug is now history.
Thus, the glitch was a feast for many, but some caught wind of the lucrative glitch too late and couldn’t take advantage of it.
Glitch drives prices up: Not all players could rejoice over the glitch, as many are now extremely rich and can afford every card on the transfer market, causing prices to rise and even cards to disappear completely from the transfer market.
FUT player Mbappe4ever (via Reddit) reports that he has been saving for Benzema (99) for days, but due to the glitch, he has now become significantly more expensive. A look at futbin shows that the card was at 1,000,000 coins before the bug and is now at 1,400,000 coins due to the glitch.

What are the consequences? Many players are now afraid of a big ban wave that could also affect the FIFA successor EA Sports FC 24. After all, a clear bug has been exploited thousands of times to earn coins and cards in FUT.
However, whether and how EA will act regarding the bug is currently still unknown. So far (as of 14.09.) the developer has not publicly commented on the glitch and possible consequences. Whether EA would actually ban numerous players shortly before the release of FC 24 seems questionable.
