The Weekend League is probably the most important FUT competition in FIFA 22. But this week, some players seem to want to skip it. What’s going on?
In FIFA 22, players can earn strong rewards every week in the Weekend League. However, the path to get there is quite rocky with the new qualification. You have to win a number of matches to be allowed into the Weekend League – and if you can’t do that, you even have to qualify again for the qualification.
So it’s not necessarily easy to get into the Weekend League. And even if the competition on the weekend has become somewhat more relaxed than before: A Weekend League costs time and nerves.
Accordingly, the rewards for the weekend should be worth it. These rewards include special cards from the current TOTW. But some players are currently dissatisfied with those.
Criticism of TOTW 5 in FIFA 22: “Takes the excitement out of the Weekend League”
What’s going on with the TOTW? In the new TOTW 5, there are a few interesting Bundesliga players, but there is no real standout. The highest-rated card is Szczesny with an 88 – and he’s a goalkeeper. On the field, Firmino with an 86 is probably the best player.
In the FIFA subreddit, the TOTW was not well received: Numerous players commented there that they wished for a better TOTW (via reddit). Among other things, the “featured player” is criticized: This is usually a weaker player who receives an extra upgrade for the TOTW.
This week, the Getafe right-back Damian Suarez, who received an 84-rated card, does not necessarily belong to the more exciting footballers in the game in the TOTW. Therefore, some players would have preferred to see this upgrade for Bellingham or Ansu Fati, who are also in TOTW 5 (via reddit).
Here lies the problem for the Weekend League: The TOTW cards, in the form of Player Picks, are among the most important rewards in the Weekend League. It has also happened in the past that the TOTW players did not always convince. But in FIFA 22, there is an important innovation: In the new game, you can now see before participating in the Weekend League which TOTW cards you will play with on the weekend.
This was not the case before. The rewards for the Weekend League were always given out after the competition on Thursday – and by then, a new Team of the Week was already online. Now, where you receive your rewards directly after the Weekend League, the Player Picks are drawn from the last TOTW.
And because this does not convince all players, some want to simply skip the weekend.
- “I am shocked at how poor the TOTW is – it has literally taken all the excitement out of this Weekend League for me, and it’s only Wednesday,” writes user Marshg1214 (via reddit).
- “I will skip this weekend, as I only have 2 attempts left this season. Pretty easy decision after seeing this excuse of a TOTW,” agrees another (via reddit).
- “Looks like I will be playing Far Cry this weekend. It’s not worth stressing over a Firmino,” plans user enricupcake (via reddit).
Is the Weekend League not worth it at all? While some players skip the weekend, others point out there are still packs and coins to win. You can save those in case a better TOTW is available later.
Additionally, the RTTK event is still running. Here, you can also hope to pull good cards from the packs. However, it should be noted that you need a lot of luck to get top cards from packs.
Regardless of this, it can be worth collecting red Player Picks, no matter how highly rated they are. You can then use them later in FUT Champions upgrade SBCs and aim for better rewards there.
