The first new icons for FIFA 22 are now known. Three legends have already been presented with ratings – the fourth icon, however, is still a secret from EA Sports.
Update on FIFA 22 ratings: On Monday evening, September 13, EA Sports released additional ratings. Here you can find the players with the highest ratings in FIFA 22.
These are Icons: In FIFA, cards for legendary players who made headlines in the past are referred to as “Icons”. Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Pelé, Maradona – the biggest names in world football belong to this series of players.
Each icon has three cards in FIFA: the Base, Mid, and Prime cards, which represent different stages of their careers and come equipped with varying strengths.
A special feature of these cards is that they build chemistry with all other cards in Ultimate Team – regardless of which league, nationality, or club they belong to. Thus, icons can be used in any team and are even a bit more versatile than the new FUT heroes.
Throughout the game’s history, the “Prime Icon Moments” card has also been added: this, in turn, reflected a specific iconic moment of the respective player and received even stronger stats.
Also in FIFA 22, there will be new icons again. Three of them have been announced by EA Sports along with their ratings. A fourth has been announced – who it is, however, is still not known.
Casillas, Cafu, and van Persie – These are the new icons in FIFA 22
This is how strong the new icons will be: With the three legends van Persie, Cafu, and Casillas, three players join the icon ranks in FIFA who could hardly be more different.
While Robin van Persie is primarily remembered for his impressive goals, goalkeeper Casillas was known for preventing such goals. Cafu, on the other hand, played as a defender and collected titles endlessly.

Casillas
This is how strong Casillas will be: The legendary goalkeeper is primarily associated with his time at Real Madrid, where he was for years the undisputed number 1 and later captain. The Spaniard won the long-awaited tenth Champions League title with the Galacticos, as well as countless other titles. He also won the World Cup in 2010 with the Spanish national team.
In FIFA 22, Casillas will also be a really strong asset. Even his base card looks quite decent with an overall rating of 87, and the mid and prime cards are likely to be among the best keepers in the game. Thanks to his icon status, Casillas can also be integrated into any team – he is therefore expected to be popular but probably also expensive.
Cafu
This is how strong Cafu will be: To this day, the Brazilian is the only player to have appeared in three World Cup finals during his career. Cafu even won two of them – he lifted the coveted trophy in both 1994 and 2002. At the club level, Cafu was also extremely successful, winning the title in the Champions League with AC Milan, among others.
His cards in FIFA 22 look really strong. All three are equipped with consistently strong stats and combine everything needed in full-backs. The pace is strong, the defensive and physical stats are high, and he even brings dribbling and passing strength. Only shooting at the goal might not be necessary with him.
Robin van Persie
This is how strong van Persie will be: The forward became the record goalscorer of the Dutch national team with 50 goals, and he regularly scored for his clubs as well. Feyenoord Rotterdam, Arsenal, Manchester United, Fenerbahçe Istanbul, and again Feyenoord – van Persie remained dangerous at all his stations.
In FIFA 22, his cards are correspondingly offensively strong. Especially in terms of shooting power, van Persie will have a lot to offer, and his dribbling stats also look good. In terms of speed, van Persie lags a bit behind, however, the developers mentioned that sprinting in FIFA 22 should not be as game-defining as before – if that holds true, van Persie could become really dangerous.
The fourth icon is still a secret
What about the 4th icon? In a tweet, EA Sports announced Casillas, Cafu, and van Persie and hinted at another legend. So far, however, it is still completely open who it could be.
Players are already speculating about names like Rooney or Di Stefano. Who it will ultimately be, however, will be revealed in the coming days. We will keep you updated!
