On Friday evening, the OTW event started in FIFA 22. But in addition to special cards, a new cosmetic bundle also landed in the shop. And it’s not even that cheap.
What’s going on in FIFA 22? The OTW event kicked off appropriately with the release of FIFA 22 and brought the new dynamic cards for the biggest transfers of the summer into the game.
But in addition to the usual packs, FIFA fans also found something new in the shop: “Mirai’s Complete Bundle” as well as many individual cosmetics that are apparently based on a heroine named “Mirai” and a large robot. The prices for these are hefty:
- A choreography called “Mirai’s Mecha Soul” – XL choreography. It costs 12,000 coins or 125 FIFA Points.
- “Mirai’s Stadium Theme”. It goes for 15,000 coins or 175 Points.
- The “Mirai’s Mecha Soul” emblem costs 20,000 coins or 225 Points.
- The corresponding home jersey should cost 30,000 coins, or 350 Points. The away jersey costs the same.
- The “Mirai’s Field Trophy” costs 36,000 coins or 400 Points.
- And the new “Mirai’s Mecha Soul” VIP area goes for 45,000 coins or 500 Points.
Alternatively, it is also available in bundles.
- “Mirai’s Complete Bundle” is offered for 135,000 coins or 1,500 Points. Everything is included.
- Alternatively, there is the “Basics Bundle”, with slightly fewer cosmetics for 90,000 coins or 1,000 Points.
- Or the jersey bundle with both shirts, for 50,000 coins or 550 Points.
Cosmetics for the prices of strong players
The cosmetics are exactly that: cosmetic content that makes the stadium look nicer, but offers no gameplay advantage. In the past, they were typically obtained randomly from packs or through seasonal progress.
Notably, the high price stands out. For comparison: With the 135,000 coins that the complete bundle pack costs, you could get, for example, these players (via futbin):
- Paul Pogba (87, 129,000 coins)
- Ruud van Nistelrooy, Icon (86, 134,000 coins)
- The meta cards Llorente (86, 118,000 coins) or Ferland Mendy (83, 108,000 coins)
- Erling Haaland, twice (88, 61,000)
And plenty of other players. Even if you only consider the jersey for 30,000 coins as an example, it becomes clear: For such prices you can get strong players like Jan Oblak, Harry Kane, Sergio Ramos (twice), or Renato Sanches.
Especially in the trading-oriented transfer market of Ultimate Team, where every coin counts in order to get good players, the prices for the cosmetics still seem unusually high.
In fact, it’s not the first time that such cosmetics have been sold for many coins outside of packs. Back in May 2021, FIFA ventured into such an experiment for the first time. It was not well received then – and this time there is criticism as well.
What the community says: In the FIFA subreddit, the new cosmetics are not received positively. Most players in the comments find the price to be significantly too high:
- “I’ve been grinding since the early access without spending anything and I have 300,000 and EA wants me to spend half of it on this nonsense?” comments user Antropomorphis (via reddit).
- “Who the hell is supposed to buy these?” asks another user (via reddit).
- “This must be a social experiment, right?” speculates user Balakov_Gang (via reddit).
Moreover, some comment that in Ultimate Team you can even set it so that the opponent can be displayed with your own away jerseys to avoid color issues on the pitch. So it’s quite possible that no one ever sees the jersey for which so many coins were spent.
