A new POTM SBC featuring Kalidou Koulibaly has been released in FIFA 22. The Serie A defender has really strong stats – but he doesn’t come cheap.
What is this SBC? The POTM award stands for “Player of the Month” and is given for various leagues. This year, the Player of the Month from the Italian Serie A is being included for the first time with an SBC in FIFA 22.
By completing this SBC, you receive a boosted special card of the Player of the Month. This card cannot be found on the transfer market or in packs – it can only be obtained through the challenge.
To do this, you need to exchange several teams. For each part of the SBC, there are packs as rewards – and in the end, the POTM awaits. This month, it’s Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly in the case of Serie A. And he scores with really good stats.
POTM Koulibaly’s strength in FIFA 22
This is the card: POTM Koulibaly has everything you need on his 88-rated card in the key areas for a defender. His speed is quite good at 83, with a breakdown of 76 acceleration and 89 sprint speed. His defending and physical stats are 89 and 87.
Sure, Koulibaly is not a great goal scorer or playmaker. But in terms of defense, the POTM card is among the best that Ultimate Team currently has to offer. If you equip him with a Shadow style, Koulibaly becomes very hard to get past.
The thing is: very similar arguments apply to his normal 86-rated gold card.
Is POTM Koulibaly worth it? Looking at the SBC, you can see that you need to invest quite a bit. Required are:
- An 83-rated squad including a TOTW player and 80 chemistry
- An 84-rated team with Serie A players that has at least 75 chemistry
- An 85-rated squad
- An 87-rated squad
For these tasks, you will receive tradeable packs back, but the base price for completing all four parts of the SBC is currently estimated at about 166,750 coins (via futbin).
This is still cheaper than comparable players like Varane (around 340,000 coins) or van Dijk (around 200,000 coins), but it still represents a very high price, especially at the beginning of a FUT season. Additionally, Koulibaly does not offer the best linking opportunities outside of Serie A.
One might want to consider using Koulibaly’s normal card instead of the POTM. While it’s two overall points weaker, it’s still an incredibly strong defender. The key point is: Currently, the gold card costs only 23,000 coins – so many times less than the POTM version.
You do have some time to think about it: The SBC is available until October 21 in FIFA 22.
The Bundesliga is also getting its own Player of the Month. Currently, the vote for the new Bundesliga POTM in FIFA 22 is still ongoing.
