Anyone playing “Captain Fantastic” in FIFA 22 can look forward to unusual matches. But is the task series in Ultimate Team worth it?
The special thing about Captain Fantastic: Normally, you play in FIFA Ultimate Team with one of the typical camera settings that display the field from left to right like on TV.
However, the Captains Event has an unusual task series: Captain Fantastic turns everything 90 degrees and forces you to play with the “Pro” camera setting. You primarily know this from modes where you only control a single player – it basically hasn’t played a role in Ultimate Team.
Here’s how it looks like, for example:
What do I need to do? To complete the task series “Captain Fantastic,” you have to complete a total of four sections. You can find the “Captain Fantastic Mode” in Live Friendlies.
- Full Commitment: Here you need to score 10 goals in Squad Battles (at least on Pro). You can still use the normal camera.
- Reward: 50 XP, a 75+ player, and the “FUT Heroes Club” jersey. The latter is needed for the remaining tasks.
- Excellent Crosses: Prepare 5 goals from crosses in Captain Fantastic Mode and wear the FUT Heroes Club jersey. In this mode, the camera switches to Pro.
- 1 Player Pick 80+ from 3, 50 XP
- Super Scorer: Score 20 goals in Captain Fantastic Mode and wear the FUT Heroes Club jersey.
- 1 Player Pick 80+ from 3, 50 XP
- Consistent Captain: Score in 8 separate matches of Captain Fantastic Mode and wear the FUT Heroes Club jersey.
- Reward: 1 Player Pick 80+ from 3, 50 XP
If you complete the entire task, there is an additional reward: a Player Pick 84+, also from 3 players.
Is Captain Fantastic worth it in FIFA 22?
The pros of the task: In general, it’s a fun thing to play FIFA 22 from a completely different perspective. You’ll quickly realize that the game feels very different to play. Defending is particularly challenging, as are skills and offensive runs.
However, it can be a lot of fun to see the team operate in such detail. Moreover, there are some Player Picks in the task series where you can get good cards with some luck.
The cons of the task: The rewards are not great. As stated, you might get good cards with some luck, but you shouldn’t expect it.
Those who only play the task series for the rewards may be disappointed. Especially since it is not so easy to score cross-goals in this view – let alone actually score 20 goals.
Some players report glitches causing the camera to revert back to the “normal” view after a throw-in or corner. This can be an advantage for players only after rewards. However, this cannot be reliably repeated and may have already been corrected.
In short: If you’re just looking for variety in Ultimate Team, Captain Fantastic is definitely the right choice. If you’re only chasing rewards, you might want to indulge in other modes.
