In FIFA 21, you don’t have to tackle Ultimate Team alone anymore: With the new Co-op feature, you can invite friends to lead your club to the top. How does the teamwork work?
What’s new in FIFA 21: When sitting at home in front of the console, it was already possible to play Ultimate Team together. You would simply pick up a second controller and get started. However, this was not possible online.
In FUT 21, the feature is finally here and was also shown as a major innovation in the first trailer. You can invite a friend over the internet to play matches together in FUT. This is possible in the following modes:
- Division Rivals
- Squad Battles
- Friendly Matches
You cannot play the Weekend League together. Here you will find a detailed overview of all Co-op modes in FUT.
Even if not all modes can be played with two players, both players can earn progress through the Co-op feature. Let’s see how that works exactly.
Duos in Ultimate Team – How joint gaming works
How to start together: To play together in Ultimate Team, you can simply invite friends through the new “Friends Hub”. From the new Co-op lobby, you can dive into Division Rivals, Squad Battles, and Friendly Matches.
The inviting player takes on the role of the host. They decide which team will be used and how the kits and connection to the opponent will look.
The matchmaking is based on the highest skill rating within the party. So if you play at the same level, you should also get opponents that correspond to the skill rating of both players.
By the way, it is not mandatory that you also play against two-player teams. At a press event a few weeks ago, which MeinMMO could attend, the developers confirmed that it can also happen that a duo plays against single players. However, the matchmaking tries to assign your duo a two-player team as an opponent.
If you play alone, there is a switch that allows you to set whether you want to play against two-player teams or only solo.
What you can win: When playing as a duo, both players are supposed to earn progress for their club. This means you can fill your Rivals account together, even if you are playing with your friends’ team. This way both of you have the opportunity to improve your club – and for example secure strong Bundesliga players in FUT. In addition, there will be special Co-op weekly tasks that you can solve together.
