In FIFA 21 the weekly challenge in Ultimate Team currently requires a “low cross” from players. However, this does not seem to work at the moment.
Update, October 21: The problem has apparently been resolved. Although the task description still states “low cross,” you can now complete the weekly challenge simply with a normal cross – just using the square button (PS4) or the X button (Xbox One). If you use a midfielder with at least 82 dribbling for the assist, it should be accepted as “completed” for you as well.
If it doesn’t work right away: In our test, we only charged the cross enough for our players to shoot the ball into the goal and not head it. This might fulfill the “low” part of the task. If your players instead score with a header after a high cross and the task is not accepted as complete, try this variant again.
Here continues with the original message.
Where is the problem? Currently, in Ultimate Team the weekly challenges of Week 2 are available. The weekly challenges are a way to earn XP for seasonal progress. The more XP you collect, the closer you get to the highest rewards.
The challenges of Week 2 present you with various tasks to master. But in the Gold section, which is the last part of the tasks, there is a problem.
There you will find the task “Assist in Rivals”. It states:
- Prepare 1 goal in Rivals with a midfielder (min. 82 dribbling) via low cross.
So you need a dribbling-strong player in the positions LM, RM, CAM, CM, or CDM, and you must make an assist in a very specific way in Division Rivals. That is already hard enough, but it seems that the task is currently also faulty.
Low cross causes confusion – Is there a mistake in the task?
How does a low cross work? This question is currently being asked by several players. The problem is: When you look at the control prompts of FIFA 21, there is no type of cross that is explicitly defined as a “low cross”.
In the overview, you can find various crosses that go beyond the standard cross. However, “low” is not one of them. The English variant does not provide clarity either. Here, a “Low Cross” is required, but the control overview only offers “Ground Cross” and “Driven Cross.” Instead, several other crosses could be meant since they come in “flatter” than normal crosses:
- The “Flat Cross,” which you need to perform by pressing double square (PS4) or double X (Xbox One). In the past, it was often the “Flat Cross” that was required in tasks.
- The “Full Power Cross,” which is executed with R1 + square / RB + X.
- The “Flat Full Power Cross,” which is executed with R1 + double square / RB + double X.
The problem: Currently, none of these crosses seem to work for success. Players report this in the FIFA subreddit:
- “I have tried R1 and cross, R2-cross, pressing cross multiple times, nothing works,” comments user “lovekagawa” (via reddit).
- “It didn’t work for me either. Really frustrating because it is a decent amount of XP for a simple objective,” comments another user (via reddit).
Players are also looking for a solution in the EA Answers forum, but none seems to have been found so far. Users report that different types of crosses did not lead to success – and they even lost matches because they were focusing on the complicated way of scoring (via EA).
Many players suspect that it is simply a registration error – that is, the task performed correctly is just not recognized as completed. In the newly introduced problem tracker of EA Sports, no corresponding entry has appeared yet. We will keep you updated on this issue as soon as a solution is found.
