Free kicks can play an important role in FIFA 21 and determine victory or defeat. We show you perfect free kicks for the Weekend League.
That’s why free kicks are so important: In the Weekend League, every victory determines your rank and thus how good your rewards will be. And if you get a decisive free kick in the 90th minute, it would be a huge advantage if you could convert it directly to secure the victory.
How do free kicks work in FIFA 21? Free kicks work essentially the same as in FIFA 20, where the new free kick mechanic was introduced. You need to follow these steps.
- Choose the free kick taker
- Determine the approach
- Aim with the white circle (indicator) and determine the direction and height
- Charge the shot power
- Set the spin with the right stick during the run-up
- If necessary, perform a timed finishing
But there are many different spins and techniques to get the ball into the net. We show you which free kick techniques are particularly effective in FIFA 21.
These free kicks you should definitely practice
These free kicks are particularly effective: There is no guarantee or perfect method that ensures every single free kick goes in without exception. However, with enough training and the right technique, you have a great chance to convert many free kicks.
The Topspin Free Kick
Then you should use it:
- At a distance between 16 and 24 meters
- If the goalkeeper stays put and the opponent does not move him manually
This is how the variant works: First, you need a taker with decent free kick stats and good shot power. Choose this player and follow these steps:
- Aim with the indicator at the corner where the wall is
- Aim a bit above the crossbar (the higher the distance, the higher you need to aim)
- Charge the shot bar with about 2 bars (a bit more for longer distances)
- Then move the right stick first up and then quickly down to set the spin
- For more accuracy, press the shoot button again for a timed finish
If you did everything right, the ball will be in the net and neither the wall nor the goalkeeper could do anything against it. However, if the goalkeeper moves, we recommend the next free kick variant.
The Power Free Kick
Then you should use it:
- At short distances between 16 and 20 meters
- From a central position
- If the opponent pulls the keeper out of the goalkeeper corner
This is how the variant works: If the opponent pulls his goalkeeper a step out of the goalkeeper corner, the power free kick is advisable. For this, you should choose a good free kick taker with as much shot power as possible. Then proceed as follows:
- Aim with the indicator directly in the goalkeeper corner
- Charge the shot with about 3 bars
- Hold L1/LB
- Keep the left stick up
- For more precision, press the shoot button again for a timed finish
If everything worked out, the ball will land with power into the net and is untraceable. You can also try the variant flat and aim for the lower goalkeeper corner.
Which method do you prefer? Or do you rather pass the ball instead of shooting on goal? We have more tips for more victories in the Weekend League here for you.
