In FIFA 21 there are many different ways to score a goal. But in which situation should you use which shot? We explain how to make the best use of the various shots on goal.
Not every situation in FIFA 21 makes it sensible to simply shoot at the goal. There are different shots for every game situation and we explain to you which shot you should use when.
What settings should you choose? In the settings menu, you can keep all shooting assists activated. This makes aiming significantly easier, and you only need to decide on the corner and height of the shot.
However, whether you want to use “Timed Finishing” is up to you. The feature offers you more precision for your shot, but it also requires a lot of skill and can quickly backfire.
The different shots in FIFA 21 and how to use them
Things to watch out for: Besides the correct shooting technique, it’s also essential to pay attention to which foot your player shoots with. Many footballers have a strong foot and a weak foot. That’s why the two-footed Dembélé is excellent for your Ultimate Team.
However, for example, Erling Haaland is left-footed, and you should always pay attention to the fact that he can shoot with his left foot. A shot with his right foot can go in sometimes (Haaland has 3 out of 5 stars for his weak foot), but it’s not a sure thing.
The Power Shot
The Power Shot is a classic in FIFA and is really strong in the latest installment. It’s a straight shot that flies towards the goal with a lot of power.
When you should use it: This shot is suitable for almost any situation occurring in or just outside the penalty area. But make sure to be at a good angle to the goal before shooting. If your player is not facing the goal, it’s better not to shoot.
How to execute it: It couldn’t be simpler:
- Aim with the left stick at a corner and
- hold the shoot button (Circle).
The further away you are, the more power you need. For a shot inside the penalty area, a strength of a maximum of 2 bars is recommended.
This year, aim again for the far post, which is effective again compared to FIFA 20. Though shots towards the near post can also work well.
The Finesse Shot
The curled shot is an important finishing variation that every FIFA player should master. This allows you to place the ball accurately into the goal with spin.
When to use it: If you don’t have a clear path for a Power Shot and even have a defender in the way, then opt for the curled shot. This will help you place the ball into the net with spin and compensate for your poor angle to the goal.
Moreover, Finesse Shots are the best method to convert long shots in FIFA 21.
How to execute it: The process here is similar to the Power Shot:
- Again aim with the left stick in the desired corner (preferably towards the far post),
- but this time hold the R1 button
- and charge your shot with the shoot button (about 2 bars).
If you’re not in the penalty area, then more power is necessary.
The Low Shot
The low shot is not as strong in FIFA 21 anymore. But in some situations, it can definitely pay off.
When to use it: The low shot is particularly recommended for players with lower shooting stats. The probability that the ball goes wide of the goal is rather low. It also works well in tight situations in the opponent’s penalty area.
How to execute it:
- Aim with the left stick at the desired corner of the goal,
- hold R1 and L1
- and charge the shot with the shoot button.
Be sure to try the low finesse shot as well. You execute it like a normal finesse shot:
- but press L1 shortly after pressing the shoot button, so that the curled shot goes low towards the goal.
The big advantage is that you can give the shot an extreme amount of power, and it still won’t lift off.
The Lob Shot
The lob shot goes over the opposing goalkeeper and ideally lands behind him in the goal.
When to use it: When you are one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and he is running towards you, it’s time for a lob. With the right timing and good shot strength, no keeper can prevent the goal.
How to execute it: Executing the lob is not difficult:
- Simply aim at the goal
- Hold L1
- and charge your shot with Circle.
But you should be careful not to put too much power into the lob. 1-2 bars are enough from a short distance.
