The first players have started in FIFA 21, and you can already earn a lot of coins. However, you need to be careful with your placement in FUT.
Where do the coins come from? In Ultimate Team, there are some innovations. One of them is that promotions from division to division are now partially rewarded with a substantial amount of coins. The special thing is: If you are placed in Division Rivals for the first time in your skill division, you get coins for all the divisions you skip. This means: If the game places you in Division 5, you receive coin rewards for the skipped divisions 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6.
It can happen that after 5 wins, you are placed directly in Division 2 and thus earn 124,000 coins. In lower divisions, there are still rewarding coin amounts ranging from 29,000 to 89,000 coins, depending on how high you were ranked. You can easily put together a good Bundesliga team with that.
A big plus that can be very useful at the start – even if you are a skilled trader. Therefore, the question is clear: How do you reach the highest division?
Squad Battles or Division Rivals?
How does the game determine my division? This point is important: In FIFA 21, there are two ways through which Ultimate Team determines your division. Namely, Squad Battles or the Division Rivals games.
- In Squad Battles, you play against the AI. Here, the game determines your division placement based on the difficulty level and your results from the first 30 matches you play.
- In Division Rivals , it is merely 5 matches after which you will be placed in the new division. Here, however, you play against real opponents.
What is more worthwhile? Currently, it looks like Division Rivals is the more lucrative way to secure many coins. In our test, three wins and two losses in Rivals were enough to land in Division 4 and earn over 50,000 coins at once. It went pretty quickly and was worth it.
In Squad Battles, on the other hand, you might face a simpler AI opponent but need significantly more matches. And, some players report that you are placed significantly lower in Squad Battles than in the placement matches. One user writes (via reddit): “I was just placed in Division 8 even though I played and won most matches on Professional/World Class.”
Do I have to choose? Not directly. In the end, it counts which you complete first – the 5 Rivals matches or the 30 Squad Battles. Thus, you can also try four Rivals matches, and if everything goes wrong, simply take the other route in Squad Battles.
However, it is still not completely clear whether this method will work forever: It is quite possible that the placement matches will be evaluated in relation to other players. After all, the division is determined by your skill rating. In this case, it could become increasingly difficult to jump into a high division with few wins as more players start playing after the FIFA 21 release. Then, it would make sense to finish the placement quickly.
Additionally, one should consider that the competition in the higher divisions is significantly tougher in the long run than further down.
If you are an extremely strong player and should dominate most of the 5 matches, you shouldn’t have any problems either. For a successful start, we have already gathered a few strong formations for you.
