In FIFA 21, there are some players who can receive upgrades over time. However, EA Sports accidentally improved a completely wrong card – giving some players an unexpected gift.
Here lies the problem: In FIFA 21 Ultimate Team, there have been the so-called Road-to-the-Final (RTTF) cards for some time now. These player cards improve when the actual player’s team wins certain matches in the Champions or Europa League or advances to the next round.
One such card belongs to Dortmund’s Julian Brandt – and it was due for an upgrade last week after Borussia Dortmund won 3-2 against Sevilla on February 17. The player’s RTTF card increases to an overall rating of 88 due to the victory and is currently worth around 160,000 coins on the transfer market.
So far, so good – but EA made a mistake with the upgrade. Not only this card received an upgrade.
EA improves the wrong Brandt – this is how it stays now
This is what happened: For some reason, not only the RTTF card of Julian Brandt but also his regular UCL card (UEFA Champions League card) jumped to 88. The UCL cards are actually special only because they have a blue Champions League coloring and are needed in certain Squad Building Challenges.
They offer no gameplay advantage compared to the regular gold cards – and are rather useless compared to RTTF cards. They are not eligible for an upgrade.
Nevertheless, players suddenly found the UCL card with a rating of 88 over the weekend – even those who simply had the player unused in their club. The interesting part: The UCL card normally costs around 14,000 coins, which is extremely low for an 88-rated card. The RTTF card, on the other hand, is worth around 160,000 coins and is thus more than ten times more valuable.
This is how EA resolved the situation: It was announced via Twitter that the affected player items will now be treated simply as an RTTF variant. Therefore, there are now two RTTF variants of Julian Brandt, which could improve in the future if Dortmund progresses further in the competition.
Meanwhile, a corrected UCL version of Brandt has been added back to the packs. He can thus reappear in this form as well. However, anyone who had the card in their club before can now enjoy an unexpected upgrade!
