With Eric Cantona, FIFA 21 has introduced its first new icon. The Manchester United legend was known for great football, but also for his wild temperament. What could his card look like in Ultimate Team?
This is Eric Cantona: Cantona is a striker legend who spent most of his career at Manchester United. For the “Red Devils,” he scored 81 goals and assisted 61 more in 179 matches. He won the English championship four times with ManU, as well as twice the FA Cup. He also became champion in England with Leeds United, and previously won the title in France with Olympique Marseille.
Looking at Best-Ofs of “King Eric,” you see plenty of powerful strikes that hit the opponent’s goal from all angles. He was technically brilliant, and his headers were feared.
Fans suggest unusual Icon card: Cantona made headlines not just for his sporting prowess. His unique style of playing with a turned-up collar became his trademark. After his active career, he became an actor – also a rather unusual step for a footballer.
However, the biggest uproar about Cantona was the “Kung Fu kick” in 1995. After Cantona was sent off with a red card, insults rained down from the stands. A Crystal Palace fan had gone too far – and Cantona jumped into the stands with a Kung Fu kick. An image that went around the world. It’s no wonder it was directly suggested by a user (via reddit) for the Prime Icon Moments card of Cantona in FIFA 21:

How strong will Cantona be in FIFA 21? In the recently introduced new trailer for FIFA 21, Cantona also plays a role. He is invited to a round of cooperative FUT – and is, of course, shown appropriately as “King Eric”:
Last year, it was Zinedine Zidane who took the lead role for the new legends in FIFA 20. The Frenchman received four very strong Icon cards with overall ratings of 91, 94, 96, and 97.
Cantona likely won’t be as strong, but he should still receive powerful cards. Especially in offensive finishing, Cantona will be a force to be reckoned with, and he should impress technically as well. Defensively, however, his ratings may not be as high.
