In FIFA 21, the online co-op mode for Ultimate Team is one of the big new features. However, not all modes in FUT can be played together.
This is how co-op works in FUT 21: In FIFA 21, you can finally team up with your friends over the internet to make progress in Ultimate Team. This is part of the major FUT innovations in FIFA 21. Previously, you could team up on the couch to compete in Division Rivals, but online play was not possible.
Currently, online duos are planned – you cannot, as in Pro Clubs, steamroll through the divisions with eleven players. To invite friends to a game, you can simply use the new co-op lobby to start together. We have already summarized how the new co-op feature works here in the overview.
This is what FUT online co-op looks like in different modes
Where can you play together? Not all modes allow you to play together. Here, we take a look at the different FUT modes and how the co-op feature works.
Division Rivals
Can I play Division Rivals in online co-op? Yes, Division Rivals can be played in online co-op. The game is played with the team of the captain or host. Both players should be able to earn progress for their club. This applies to weekly points, coins, and qualifying points for the Weekend League. So, you can improve your club together – by the way: Here you can already create your dream team.
Important: The number of Rivals games that count towards the weekly leaderboard is limited to 30 games this year. If a player has no point games left, there will be no weekly points for either player. In this case, both players can still collect coins, improve skill ratings, and earn Weekend League points, as well as make progress on tasks.
Squad Battles
Can I play Squad Battles in online co-op? Yes, you can also play together in Squad Battles. The principle works similarly to Division Rivals, except that in Squad Battles you play against the AI and not against real opponents.
Weekend League
Can I play the Weekend League in online co-op? As it stands, it will not be possible to play the Weekend League in pairs. This is also consistent with the couch co-op variant: While you could always play Division Rivals together with a guest on the couch, this was not possible with the Weekend League.
In the Weekend League, you must continue to manage on your own. The better your players, the stronger your chances there. Here is a brief overview of ratings that are already known before the FIFA 21 release and could help you:
– 5 players who look completely OP even before release
– The best players in FIFA 21
– The fastest players in FIFA 21
Draft
Can I play Draft in online co-op? No, the Draft will also not have an online co-op feature. This is a bit surprising, as Draft can be played in co-op on the couch. However, EA Sports emphasized via Twitter that they wanted to give the online feature first to the most popular modes – and Draft does not seem to be one of them:
Friendlies
Can I play Friendlies in online co-op? Yes, that will be possible. You can team up in pairs and then look for opponents through the in-game player search. Special modes, such as Surprise Ball or King of the Hill, will also be playable together.
However, you cannot play with a partner and then invite additional friends as opponents. A 2vs2 is, for example, not possible.
If there are any changes to the co-op capabilities of the individual modes, we will update this article. Not only are you engaged in FUT, but also looking at the other modes? Then you can find all innovations of FIFA 21 here.
