A new eSport rule for the World Series in FIFA 20 states that a team may have a maximum overall rating of 86. However, such a team can currently cost up to $6,000. FIFA professionals are sounding the alarm.
In FIFA 20, large tournaments like the World Series are played in Ultimate Team mode. This means that each participant must build their own team. The players receive FIFA gamers from card packs, which can be purchased for real money or in-game currency.
However, the best cards in FUT 20 are quite expensive and hard to afford for many amateurs. For FIFA professionals, such teams are normal.
A FIFA professional criticizes the regulation
This is being criticized: The FIFA professional Ivan “BorasLegend” Lapanje criticizes that the new regulation (for the World Series) now allows FUT teams that can cost up to 20,000,000 coins.
This corresponds to an investment of about $6,000, which is 5,375€, the professional calculates.
According to BorasLegend, this promotes Pay2Win and players with less money would stand no chance against the professionals with their top teams.
Furthermore, the FIFA pro notes that for qualifying for the World Series, a minimum of $500 is awarded as a prize. This is a joke compared to the $6,000 that one would have to invest.

This is how strong a $6,000 team is: In such a 20,000,000 coin team, there can be absolute top stars. In BorasLegend’s example, Neymar (92), Messi (94), and Brazilian Ronaldo (94) are among the currently best offensive cards.
But not only in attack is the team top class; in midfield and defense, there are absolute superstars like Eusebio (89), Gullit (90), and Van Dijk (90).
Real limits are therefore not set. For qualifying for the Global Series, professionals can build incredible teams that amateurs can only dream of. Entering FIFA eSports is thus associated with high costs.
BorasLegend shows the rules for the World Series:
- The overall rating of the team must be at least 86 or lower
- The team may contain a maximum of 3 Icon cards
- No player on the bench may have a rating above 86
- Every player, including the bench, must have a minimum rating of 75
There might be a simple solution
This could be a solution: The two-time FIFA world champion Alfonso Ramos responded to BorasLegend’s tweet and suggests:
“It should be quite simple. For qualification, we should either have access to a mode where all players are available or all players should have an overall rating of 85”
