A scandal surrounding the Dutch football legend Marco van Basten is now significantly increasing the market value of his card in FIFA 20. This is a reaction to the ban from EA: van Basten had said “Sieg Heil”. EA clearly distances itself from this.
This is what happened: The former Dutch professional Marco van Basten caused a scandal on Dutch television. As an expert, he conducted an interview with the German coach Frank Wormuth from the club Heracles Almelo.
At the end of the conversation, van Basten said goodbye with the words “Sieg Heil”. Van Basten has since apologized for the statement, calling it an “inappropriate joke”.
EA reacted promptly to this incident and removed van Basten’s ICON items from packs, SBCs, and the FUT Draft. Therefore, you can no longer obtain them through these means.
Some FIFA players now want to profit
This is happening now in FIFA 20: Some players who already own an ICON card of van Basten are now trying to profit from this incident. Prices for the Dutch legend are skyrocketing on the transfer market.
So far, van Basten could be bought for about 500,000-600,000 coins. Now he can be found starting at bids of up to 1 million coins. Instant buy prices are also around the same level.
Why is this happening? Van Basten’s ICON cards now naturally have a certain value. If you can no longer get the player through other means, there is only the transfer market left.
Resourceful players are now trying to make a profit from this.
Have there been similar cases? Van Basten is not the first player to be removed by EA. The developer also responds to the deaths of professionals and no longer provides their FUT items. This was the case in FIFA 18 when Colombian player Alejandro Penaranda passed away. Subsequently, his value on the transfer market also increased significantly, and players wanted to profit from the tragedy of his death.
