In the meantime, top striker Lukaku has finally received a TOTS card with a 95 overall rating in FIFA 20. But as strong as the card looks, it is not that great. FUT players are disappointed.
After Romelu Lukaku surprisingly did not make it into the Team of the Season So Far of Serie A, there was confusion. After all, the Inter Milan striker shone with strong performances and 23 goals in the current season in Italy. Even Lukaku himself was surprised that he did not receive a “Team of the Season” card:
But EA Sports had a change of heart: Now the Belgian finally has his TOTS card in FUT 20, which can be unlocked via SBC (Squad Building Challenge). However, there is a problem: The card is not as strong as one would suspect at first glance.
The problem with the TOTSSF Lukaku card
What is wrong with the new Lukaku card? If you take a look at the stats of the new Lukaku card, the values initially look fantastic: 94 pace, 96 passing, 94 dribbling, and an extremely strong 97 in physicality.
However, upon closer inspection of the card, especially the in-game stats, it becomes apparent that the card lacks several attributes that make a top striker in the endgame of FIFA 20.
What stands out are mainly the in-game stats in the areas of physicality and dribbling. A Reddit user, AlinMaior, has particularly well illustrated the issue. He compares the physicality values of TOTS Lukaku (physicality: 97) with those of TOTS Milinkovic-Savic (physicality: 96), who is also represented in the Serie A TOTSSF.
It becomes clear that Milinkovic-Savic, despite having one point less than Lukaku with 96 physicality, still has much stronger in-game stats and thus significantly better physicality values.
In every single sub-attribute, Milinkovic-Savic is equal to or better than Lukaku, but in the overall rating, he is weaker.
Romelu Lukaku has the following stats with a physicality value of 97:
- Jumping: 81
- Stamina: 86
- Strength: 99
- Aggression: 81
How he arrives at a 97, as stated on his card, is questionable for many players. This is a discrepancy that confuses and frustrates the fans. After all, Lukaku has many supporters, as the comment section on futbin shows (via futbin).
The fans are confused and angry
This is what FUT players say: For the most part, there is disappointment and confusion regarding the new TOTSSF card:
- Futbin user HalfChop says: “Ah, look at that. The card everyone wanted, but now no one will play” (via futbin)
- Or toniotron, who wonders about the stats composition: “Why does he have 97 physicality? 99 strength okay, but the rest of the stats are in the high 80s???” (via futbin)
- Additionally, there are FUT players like Sonnyinho, who accuses EA of false advertising: “This is false advertising at its finest” (via futbin)
How do such values come about? On reddit, there is heated discussion about Lukaku’s rating and frequently the upgrade method that EA is supposed to use for TOTS upgrades is mentioned. The base stats are multiplied by the card stats of the TOTS card and then subtracted from the overall value of the base card.
This would result in the TOTS stamina value of Lukaku, for example:
- The TOTS card has 97 physicality and the base card 71 stamina and 84 physicality. EA apparently calculates the value like this: 97*71/84= 81 stamina.
A complicated calculation that certainly is not known to every FUT player and can indeed cause confusion. Therefore, it is always important to take a close look at the in-game stats of the cards, as the values on the card can often be misleading.
How strong is the card actually? It is certainly disappointing that the new Lukaku card leaves some wishes unfulfilled in key areas and thus does not fit into the current meta of the game.
But despite its shortcomings, his TOTSSF card is a strong striker card with top shooting values, which is not too expensive at around 200,000 coins.
