These are icons: The icon cards are among the best items in Ultimate Team. Football legends receive new cards reflecting their performances from past days. Stars like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo or Thierry Henry become playable again.
The special thing: Besides extremely high values, the icons are characterized by a neutral club affiliation and thus good chemistry values. This means they can be integrated into any Ultimate Team without chemistry loss.
Although there are already a lot of icons, the wishlist is still long. Which legends belong to the innovations in FIFA 20? We have looked on YouTube, Reddit, and at a fan voting and compiled some suggestions.
These players are wished by fans as FIFA 20 icons
1. Zinedine Zidane
That’s why Zidane deserves an icon card: Zidane is currently at the top of the fan voting. This is not surprising: The Frenchman is considered one of the most elegant football players of all time. Zidane combined skillful solo runs with the great overview of a perfect playmaker during his active time.
Only the historical headbutt in the World Cup final 2006 against Italy stands as a dark spot on the career of the current Real Madrid coach. The second point would be that Zidane is not yet featured as a FIFA icon. It’s high time that this changes.
2. Oliver Kahn
That’s why Oliver Kahn deserves an icon card: It seems almost strange that the “Titan” has not yet been playable as a legend in FIFA 19. After all, the goalkeeper has long been part of icon wishlists.
It’s really time that the Bayern legend follows the already playable Jens Lehmann. An Oliver Kahn would probably fit well into any Ultimate Team. The goalkeeper’s unparalleled presence and over 600 games in Bayern’s dress speak volumes. However, it is uncertain whether Kahn will ever appear as an icon in FIFA: In the early 2000s, the keeper and EA Sports were involved in a legal dispute over the goalkeeper’s personality rights. It is possible that the bond in this regard is – unfortunately – severed.
3. David Beckham
That’s why Beckham deserves an icon card: David Beckham’s star rose during his youth at Manchester United and it didn’t take long for the Englishman to attract attention. Beckham was celebrated in England for his achievements before he moved to Real Madrid. Later, he had stints in Los Angeles, Milan, and Paris – by this time, Beckham had long become an absolute megastar.
Beckham’s unparalleled free-kick technique has been burned into the minds of football fans to this day. An icon card for Ultimate Team would especially stand out here. Perhaps FIFA 20 will be the installment in which Beckham is finally playable again in FUT ? In the fan voting, he currently ranks third, so there is interest.
4. Didier Drogba
That’s why Drogba deserves an icon card: When asking about the club legends of Chelsea FC, the name Didier Drogba often comes up right after Frank Lampard. The Ivory Coast striker significantly shaped the attacking play of the “Blues” and played a major role in the success of Londoners with his goal in the Champions League final 2012 against Bayern.
In November 2018, the striker ended his career – thus opening the way for an icon card in FIFA 20. And it would hardly surprise anyone if this goal machine immediately became a favorite among FIFA players.
5. Philipp Lahm
That’s why Lahm deserves an icon card: The former Bayern defender ranks very high on the icon wishlist for defense. Philipp Lahm was known as one of the most reliable right-backs in the world – some even regarded him as the best ever. He was also among the favorites in FIFA in his position.
Lahm was known for his deep understanding of the game and versatility in defense and attack. He experienced a dream career: Lahm won countless titles with FC Bayern and crowned himself World Champion in 2014. Only the icon card is still missing – FIFA 20 could be the time.
6. Kaká
That’s why Kaká deserves an icon card: If you look at the list of Ballon D’Or winners, meaning the best players of a year, you will see: Between 2008 and 2017, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo exclusively contended for the title. In 2018, it was Luka Modrić – and before that?
In 2007, it was the Brazilian Kaká who was crowned the world’s best footballer – even before CR7 and Messi, who took second and third place. The playmaker scored goals for AC Milan, set them up, and won the Champions League before moving on to Real Madrid. There it didn’t go quite as smoothly – nevertheless, an icon status is more than deserved. In the fan voting, Kaká currently ranks second behind Zidane.
7. Ali Daei
That’s why Ali Daei deserves an icon card: The name Ali Daei will leave some FIFA players with question marks at first. However, the Iranian ranks fourth in the fan voting. And that’s quite justified.
Because: Ali Daei is currently the record holder for international goals. The striker scored a total of 109 goals in 149 international matches. Thus, the former Bayern and Hertha player stands alone at the top, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and…
8. Francesco Totti
That’s why Totti deserves an icon card: He was known as the “eternal captain”: Francesco Totti seemed forever inseparable from AS Roma. The club legend made 785 appearances and scored 307 goals for his club without ever transferring. He also became a world champion. After his active career, Totti went into management with the Romans. However, recently the story ended with the separation of both parties.
Regardless, many fans would likely want to send the now 42-year-old forward back onto the virtual pitch. No wonder, after all, Totti gathered absolute top values around the 90 mark at his best. A FIFA comeback would surely find a lot of supporters – of course in the Roma jersey.
9. Ferenc Puskás
That’s why Puskás deserves an icon card: Have you ever typed “Puskas Award” into YouTube? Every football fan should at least check this out, because: The award for the best goal of the year, awarded annually since 2009, is named after Ferenc Puskas. That says a lot.
The numbers do the rest: 84 goals in 85 matches for the Hungarian national team show what a goal machine the Puskás, who passed away in 2006, was. He is still regarded as possibly the best Hungarian football player. The only blemish: The World Cup defeat in the “Miracle of Bern” – against Germany.
10. Franz Beckenbauer
That’s why Franz Beckenbauer deserves an icon card: As a member of the Xbox-exclusive “FIFA Legends”, the “Kaiser” Franz Beckenbauer has already returned to the virtual pitch once. However, the defender is missing among the icons. Will he be playable again?
