For FIFA 20 Ultimate Team, the first Icon, Andrea Pirlo, has been revealed. However, there are fears on social media that this legend will become pretty worthless. Update: Additional Icons have since been released.

This is the 1st Icon in FUT 20: Andrea Pirlo is the first player to officially receive a new Icon card in FIFA 20’s Ultimate Team mode. EA Sports shared this news a few hours ago on all social platforms.
Pirlo was an Italian midfielder who won several major titles (including 2x Champions League winner) primarily with AC Milan in the early 2000s. Later on, he also won many titles with Juventus, including 4 Italian championships. From 2015 to 2017, he concluded his career at New York City FC.
Pirlo received many nicknames during his career – such as Maestro, L’Archetetto, or Il Professore – due to his outstanding technique, vision, and football intelligence, which allowed him to orchestrate the game from midfield like no other.
“Pirlo is cool, but will be worthless in FUT 20”
That’s why nobody seems to want Pirlo’s Icon card: On Reddit and under EA’s official reveal posts, many fans have already given their first assessment of how useful Pirlo’s Icon card will be in practice. Almost everyone agrees: he will be pretty worthless in FUT 20.
Because Pirlo, as a gifted technician, is expected to receive a card that will mainly shine with strong passing stats – other stats are likely to be heavily neglected.
These concerns are being raised:
- Passing stats have not been very significant in FIFA over the past few years, as almost any player could deliver good passes. No major changes are expected in the community for FIFA 20.
- Some users are already joking about expected extremely low pace stats for Pirlo.
- Fans write that the game “hates” technically strong players. They simply do not perform well on the virtual field. Playmakers like Pirlo are at a disadvantage compared to strong and fast players.
- Another user summarizes: He will be weak, small, and lack stamina.
- “He definitely won’t be the new meta, but it’s still good news.”
Moreover, fans are not shy about joking. Many are writing: “Yes, finally the legend of Piemonte Calcio is coming as an Icon!”
A reference to the fact that FIFA 20 lost the license to use the name “Juventus Turin.”

What does the new ICON card actually look like? That is still unknown. Pirlo’s and the other Icons’ stats will only be revealed at a later date.
Will Pirlo really be worthless? Some fans hope that the gameplay in FIFA 20 will be modified so that players like Pirlo become more valuable. Because how the Icon will ultimately perform and hold up against large, strong players will only be revealed at the release of FIFA 20 on September 27, 2019, when the new gameplay can be thoroughly examined.
