In FIFA 20 there are new Icons. Among the players, favorites have already emerged – but a fan request completely backfired.
These are the new Icons: In FIFA 20, you are again allowed to hunt for goals with legends of football. These outstanding players have delivered exceptional performances in the past and are still remembered by football fans today. As professionals, they are no longer active – but in FIFA 20, the Icons are back on the pitch.
The new installment in the series brings new Icons to the game, whose ratings are now known. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most? We took a look around the community.
Kaká is finally here – and totally disappoints
This is the problem with Kaká: The Brazilian was high on the list of fan favorites for an Icon card. Several leaks indicated that Kaká would be included – the official confirmation only came on Friday.
But to the players’ shock, the card of the former world footballer was not what fans had hoped for. The highest rating for the Brazilian’s card is 91. The top speed of the fast dribbler is 91 – on the lower cards, Kaká moves in the 80s range.
Fans had hoped for a much better card. “Kaká is weaker than prime Ryan Giggs,” is the comparison made with other Icons. Zanetti or Lineker are also stronger: “This is just sad,” writes a user. A further post is titled: “Please EA, correct the ratings and stats of Kaká” – also receiving a lot of traffic. It can be noted: Fans are not thrilled.
These 5 Icons fans absolutely want
These Icons are more popular: On the other hand, fans have also found some Icons that are already ranked high on the popularity scale. We took a closer look at some reactions.
Didier Drogba
This is how strong Icon-Drogba will be: Even before the Icons were officially revealed, many fans wished for a legend card for Drogba. Their wishes were heard: The former top striker is in FIFA 20. And his stats really look impressive!
Drogba’s strongest card – excluding the upcoming Prime Icon Moments – has an overall rating of 91, a speed of 90, and a shot rating of 92. Additionally, his physicality is rated 92 – therefore, Drogba should be a fantastic target player in attack.
However, he won’t be easy to obtain, as Drogba is expected to be expensive. A player writes: “I was actually going to skip FIFA 20, but this Drogba card could change my mind.” A similar sentiment is shared by many fans, likely due to Drogba’s immense popularity during his playing time. The former Chelsea forward has become a legend in London and has many fans. Accordingly, his card is likely to be quite pricey.
Zinedine Zidane
This is how strong Zidane will be: Zinedine Zidane is one of the cover stars of FIFA 20 and should also be an absolute star on the pitch. The Frenchman and current coach of Real Madrid was also high on the fans’ wish list.
Zidane’s stats are brutal. His weakest card already has a rating of 91, while the strongest will have a score of 96. The card is so strong that some fans on reddit are already talking about it being too strong.
This does not diminish the excitement for the card itself. At least concerning one’s own team – since as much as one would like to have Zidane on their team, facing him as an opponent is likely less enjoyable.
Gianluca Zambrotta
This is how strong Zambrotta will be: The Italian defender may not have the highest ratings of all Icons. But Zambrotta is already becoming a hidden gem in the community.
Zambrotta was known for his versatility during his playing days – a fact that Reddit user “zokunAFC” addressed in a post. The very fact that his cards are spread across three different positions already indicates this – and his stats are really not bad at all. With a bit of luck, Zambrotta might also fall into the category of more affordable Icons.
Especially considering the other full-backs in the game, Zambrotta could become a hot candidate for many Ultimate Teams. His stats would also allow for deployment in midfield – and if he were to have a weak foot with five stars, he would be usable on both sides.
“Psst, stop drawing attention to him, I want to buy him cheap. I saw the stats at the release and knew immediately that he is a must-have,” commented a reddit user under the post. If you are still looking for a full-back for your team, Zambrotta could be the right choice for you.
Kenny Dalglish
This is how strong Dalglish will be: With Kenny Dalglish, an absolute Liverpool legend returns to the pitch – at least virtually. The Scottish forward was also a desired candidate for many fans and will now be playable.
Dalglish is considered perhaps the best Scottish striker of all time. The 68-year-old played a total of 435 matches for Liverpool FC, scoring 133 goals and assisting 57 others. For his country, the Scot has appeared 107 times and scored 32 goals.
Numbers that you hope to match in FIFA 20, should you manage to get Dalglish on your team. The stats definitely speak for themselves: Dribbling, speed, and shot power are extremely good – some fans even find him to be a bit too fast, as noted on reddit.
Garrincha
This is how strong Garrincha will be: If Garrincha should play against you, expect to get dribbled past. The two-time world champion is one of Brazil’s absolute football legends – some even consider him stronger than Pelé. Therefore, the joy in the community was immense when Garrincha was announced as a FIFA 20 Icon.
On reddit, Garrincha is one of the players many fans agree on: “This is a player we will be working towards.” The Brazilian was known for his incredibly strong dribbling – so expect Garrincha to be among the 5-star skill players who have all skill moves in FIFA 20.
That Garrincha’s dribbling stats are high is no surprise. But speed, shot, and passing also boast strong values. With Garrincha on your team, you definitely have a real weapon on the wing – if you can get him. Because Garrincha won’t be cheap either.
What about the old Icons?
These Icons will also be strong in FIFA 20: Of all the new Icons that will be in FIFA 20, one should not forget the “old” Icons.
Because many favorites from the last game will also be popular in FIFA 20. The two best Icons, purely from a rating perspective, remain Pelé and Maradona. But especially top players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Gullit, and Cruyff are expected to be big transfer targets once again.
