In FIFA 20 UCL cards are available in packs. However, the special cards are different from last year – and cause confusion.
These are UCL cards: UCL cards are special player items that are recognizable by their blue color. They are considered special cards, just like TOTW cards. Only players whose teams are represented in the Champions League receive such a card.
What has changed: Unlike FIFA 19, the UCL cards have no advantage over the base cards. Last year they were one rating point stronger – this year they simply have the same values. Only the design is Champions League blue. Additionally, they will appear throughout the year alongside the base cards in packs.
Players are looking for an explanation – What are the UCL cards?
This is how players react: The release of the cards has caused significant confusion in the community. The question many are asking is: If the special cards are no stronger than the normal cards – what makes them special? Under the announcement of the cards on Twitter, responses like: “Why?” or “This is pointless” are piling up. Also in the FIFA subreddit, the new variant is not well received.
As of now, the UCL cards seem to only differ from the standard cards by their blue color. Special cards are usually characterized by boosts – just like the Ultimate Scream items. Why players should chase the UCL cards is not clear to them.
What are the cards good for? Looking at the current weekly objectives in FIFA 20, you can see: There are already several that target UCL players. UCL cards can also be exchanged in the SBCs again.
The Champions League cards are currently primarily a way to make the objectives and SBCs more varied or even challenging. Now some players fear that UCL first owner tasks could play a bigger role in the next round of Icon Swaps.
In the game itself, the UCL cards are as useful as the normal cards. By the way, the Champions League cards have caused confusion before:
