Storm, Midfield, Defense: In this order, the TOTY event in FIFA 19 brought the best players of the year into the packs. However, the chances of pulling one of the fantastic players are minimal. In the community, the “Team of the Year” causes frustration.
This is the Team of the Year: The “Team of the Year” is one of the biggest events in the FIFA calendar and brings the best cards of the game to the transfer market. In three phases, the strikers were first made available, followed by the midfielders, and finally the defensive players in packs. All cards feature very high ratings.
It’s logical that an extremely high number of packs are opened during this period. And this sparks interest: On Twitch and YouTube, an incredible number of players followed their favorite streamers opening the packs or tried to pull one of the coveted footballers themselves. However, most came up empty-handed.
The dream of a TOTY player
This is why so many packs are opened: With the TOTY cards, other players can hardly compete. The card of midfielder Luka Modrić, for example, not only has an overall rating of 99, the highest possible rating in FIFA. Looking at the in-game stats broken down, it becomes clear: The TOTY Modrić card is even statistically the best card in the history of Ultimate Team.
This is how happy players are: Of course, FIFA players are mainly hunting for the TOTY version of attackers Messi (99), Ronaldo (99), and Mbappé (97). Some were able to celebrate at the end of a pack-opening marathon. You can see how that looks, for example, in this video by the user “ITANI” (from minute 8:30).
He opens a whole lot of sets, but the joy over the Cristiano Ronaldo he pulls at the end is clearly noticeable. Very similar videos can currently be found with some YouTubers – but the price for it is extremely high. Most have to open many packs before a TOTY player is in there – if at all.
Packs expensive, success unlikely
This is how likely TOTY players are in packs: To pull one of the Team-of-the-Year players from the packs, you need more than just a lucky break. While there are many promo packs and lightning rounds in the shop for the event, even with the best packs in the game, you hardly have a chance of getting a TOTY player.
For example, even the “Jumbo Rare Players Pack,” one of the best but also most expensive packs in the game, offers a TOTY probability of less than one percent. How far below one percent the probability actually lies is not disclosed by EA. It could be 0.99 percent, but also 0.000001 percent.
This is how packs lead to frustration: Most players are aware of this extremely low probability. Nevertheless, many try their luck with the expensive packs. After all, a good player who doesn’t belong to the TOTY might pop out – for example, Mbappé or Ronaldo in their base form. However, here too, the probability is still low.
Thus, a whole lot of players pulled candidates like Kagawa or Sommer for their hard-earned coins (or Euros spent on FIFA Points) instead of TOTY or top players. Not bad players – but with a market value of just under 1000 coins, an extremely frustrating result.
1000-Euro pack marathon without success
This is how the minimal chances affect players: While some FIFA players can hardly believe their luck and showcase their TOTY success on YouTube and in forums, others are not doing well at all. For example, the German streamer “GamerBrother” invested 1000 euros in FIFA Points and opened promo pack after promo pack. GamerBrother even skipped the walkouts to save time and quickly buy the limited packs. Some good players were among the end – but none from the Team of the Year.
Even bad luck in luck: At least just as bad was the experience of the player “Spursito”. During the event, he did not pull any TOTY player, but did get Cristiano Ronaldo and Mbappé – in the same pack! But in all the excitement, Spursito accidentally clicked on “Quick Sell” and sold the whole pack in one go. Gewinn: 28,050 coins instead of possible millions.
Overall, most players seem to be more annoyed than delighted by the TOTY event. On reddit, players criticize the pack system and compare it to the unloved loot boxes. FIFA is becoming increasingly “Pay2Win” – especially in light of the somewhat bumpy gameplay that allows undeserved victories.
