In FIFA 19, The Journey comes to an end. The 3rd part of the story mode is called The Journey: Champions and reveals how the story of Alex Hunter ends. We summarize his previous story – what happened so far – here in the overview.
The Journey 3 in FIFA 19: Alex Hunter returns in FIFA 19 and continues his story. The third part of the story mode, first introduced in FIFA 17, lets the young star player play in the Champions League, where he can make a splash. This appearance marks the finale of the story mode.
What do I need to know if I want to play The Journey: Champions? The Journey 3 is exclusively available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you have already played The Journey 1 and 2, the story will become more immersive for you as you are already familiar with the main characters and Alex Hunter’s development.

What happened in the first season of Alex Hunter – Overview The Journey 1
What is it all about? In The Journey, the story of 17-year-old Alex Hunter is told, who grew up in humble circumstances in the London suburb of Clapham. He is the grandson of the English football legend Jim Hunter. His father also aspired to a career in football, which however ended prematurely due to injury. Football is in young Alex’s blood.
The story takes you on the field, into the locker room, and into the daily life of Alex. Depending on your performance and decisions, the story progression will be a little different than described below. We show you what happens in The Journey when Alex achieves all his successes.
From Childhood to Professional Football
The story starts with a prologue, in which Alex Hunter is still a child. Together with his friend Gareth Walker, he plays a football match against another team. His grandfather and mother support him from the sidelines, while his grim father, who has left the family, also watches.
The game is heading towards a penalty shootout, with Alex having the decisive penalty on his foot. If you score, the match ends and family and teammates celebrate Alex. If you miss, the child from the opposing team also misses. Gareth Walker steps up next and secures the win for your team. Either way, Alex wins the trophy and happily goes home.
Then the prologue ends.
Alex is now 17 years old and gets the chance to secure a professional contract in the Premier League together with Gareth Walker. If they perform well in an “exit trial,” they might convince the scouts. If you fail to do so in a trial match, you end up on the Game Over screen. So, you need to convince the scouts.
At the exit trial, you meet Danny Williams, a young player who already has his contract. He comes across as quite unpleasant, boasts about his contract in front of Alex and Gareth, and provokes them. Throughout the story, you encounter him again.
The First Club for Alex Hunter
After the successful exit trial, Alex is approached by Michael Taylor, a somewhat oily agent, who tells him that basically all Premier League clubs are interested in him.
You can now choose a club for Alex.
Surprisingly, the club you choose is also the former club of Alex’s grandfather and the club that your friend Gareth Walker is going to.
Alex now meets his new teammates and his coach (not the “real” coach, who only appears in the background now and then). He must prove himself in training and take advantage of the few minutes of play to convince the coach.
Alex Gets Loaned Out
However, a big breakthrough in the Premier League does not come. The club makes a big transfer that takes Alex’s position and plays alongside Gareth Walker. Gareth is favored over Alex, which goes to Gareth’s head a bit. He first no longer replies to Alex’s messages, even tweeting nasty things about him later. Gareth increasingly alienates himself from Alex – and becomes his rival.
The club decides that it would be better to loan Alex out.
By the way, you can play as well as you want. This loan cannot be avoided in the story. Depending on your choice, you will end up at Aston Villa, Newcastle United, or Norwich City in the second highest English league.
At the new club, you meet your new boss “Dino,” who initially comes across as quite strict but is actually a pretty nice guy. For him, it’s always about the team working as a unit. This proves to be difficult because a familiar face plays in the club: Danny Williams.
This is the unpleasant guy from the exit trials, but throughout the story, he develops into a good friend. He helps Alex settle into the new club.
In this club, you now play numerous matches, train, and give interviews. Meanwhile, Gareth mocks Alex on Twitter. For example, he writes that the second league is more Alex’s level than the Premier League.
Back in the Premier League
In January, Alex is recalled by his Premier League club. At the same time, Alex’s former friend Gareth surprises with a transfer: he moves to a rival club. Alex and Gareth briefly meet personally, where Gareth makes it clear to him that Alex can never fill the gap he leaves behind.
You are now allowed to train again and use your minutes of play to become a regular player. The goals now are to climb up the table and reach the FA Cup final.
Meanwhile, there are always cutscenes with Alex’s mother who supports her son, and Alex’s grandfather who also provides advice. In addition, Michael Taylor, your agent, presents you with a sponsorship deal with Adidas. Alex’s career is picking up speed.
The Successes Come
If you play well, Alex has the chance to win the Premier League. You can also achieve success along the way.
The showdown of The Journey 1 takes place in the FA Cup final – if you reach it. The final, of course, takes place against Gareth’s club, who mocks Alex on social media beforehand and also makes nasty remarks in the player tunnel.
If Alex wins the trophy, Gareth lies disappointed on the pitch and Alex comes over to help him up. If Gareth wins, he does the same with Alex, but then celebrates right in his face.
The End of The Journey 1
After the final, Alex meets his dad, who had been missing until then. He congratulates Alex, saying he played well. Alex ignores him and walks on.
In the final cutscene, Alex plays a bit of FIFA with his new friend Danny. His grandfather, mother, and agent are also there. The grandfather, who has always been skeptical of Michael, now gets along with him. To complete the happy ending, Alex finally learns that he is called up to the English national team.
What happened in the second season of Alex Hunter – Overview The Journey 2
In FIFA 18, the story of Alex Hunter continues in “The Journey: Hunter Returns.” Hunter is a young football professional on his way to becoming a global star. The second season takes him to Brazil, the USA, and a European country of your choice.
It Starts in Brazil
Before the new season, Alex and Danny go on vacation together in Brazil. They then play a bit in “FIFA Street” style on the street with some kids.
Back in England, Alex can directly train again and play an 11v11 match until an important interview is pending. In a cutscene, he talks with Rio Ferdinand and depending on what you choose, either comes off cool or heated. Afterward, Alex meets his former friend Gareth, who is also invited to the interview and has discussed something with Alex’s agent, Michael Taylor.
Then it’s off to LA for season preparation on a U.S. tour, where Alex can play against Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo. A match against LA Galaxy is also scheduled.
In the USA, Alex also meets his father. They have dinner and talk a little together.
Transfer Speculations Begin
After the U.S. tour, the Premier League season begins and speculation about a transfer of Alex Hunter arises. Agent Michael Taylor approaches Alex and tells him that Real Madrid is interested in him. Real Madrid is a childhood dream for Alex, which is why he has to say “yes” despite his doubts.
The teammates and fans get wind of it and let a lot of negativity rain down on Alex. The club’s board summons Alex and demands that he submits a transfer request officially if he has thoughts of leaving. Alex complies.
After that, he is booed by the fans and finished off on social media.
But it gets worse: Apparently, Alex’s agent Michael has been played. Real Madrid was never interested in Alex. This means Alex has turned his previous club completely against him and has no new club in sight. His career seems destroyed; Alex does not know how to move forward.
He now has to decide whether he wants to fire Michael or give him a second chance. If Alex fires him, Michael does not appear in the story anymore. If he keeps his agent, it has no significant consequences. Michael still appears here and there in cutscenes.
Back to LA
But what happens next in Alex’s career? The last hope is Alex’s dad. He gets a call from him that he is now working with LA Galaxy and Alex can continue his career there. So, it’s back to LA.
In LA, Alex meets Thierry Henry, who invites him to a party and becomes a new friend. Other than that, time in LA mainly consists of training and playing.
But then there is a big surprise for Alex: Apparently, he has a half-sister who lives in the U.S. with his father. His sister is also passionate about football and can really kick well. She plays for the U.S. women’s national team. Alex watches her in a game against Germany – and gradually gets to know her better.
The time in LA ends with Alex winning the MLS Cup. He flies back to England, where he reunites with his family and Danny. His agent (Michael, if you kept him) also shows up, who has something interesting for you.
On to a European Top Club
It turns out that three major European top clubs are interested in Alex: Atletico Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich. Alex now has to decide which club he wants to join. This decision has significant consequences because you will be playing at this club until the end of The Journey 2.
After a press conference at the new club, everything revolves again around training and matches. You receive a strike partner, who is either Thomas Müller, Antoine Griezmann, or Dele Alli. You need to harmonize with him and show good performances on the field together.
However, there is a severe setback for Alex: He gets injured and is out for a while. He uses this time to watch his buddy Danny Williams, who has made his breakthrough in the Premier League – and then you can play some matches with Danny Williams, controlling him on the field. If you lead him to the cup final, you will meet Gareth Walker again, whom Danny can defeat.
The End of The Journey 2
The last chapter of The Journey 2 begins with Alex checking the (hopefully) good news about Danny’s performance in the cup final. Now, you control Alex again – although you can skip all the Danny games as well.
Alex recovers in LA, where his half-sister encourages him. She assures him that he will not suffer the same fate as his father, who had to end his career due to an injury.
Then it’s back to your club, where you and your strike partner can win the cup and the league title.
The final cutscene ends with a woman contacting Alex. She is a kind of “super agent” – and will likely replace Michael in the future. Because she wants to make a legend out of Alex Hunter…
