In FIFA 19, we are expecting the Team of the Season (TOTS) soon. Why it is worth selling your strong players now, you will find out here.
The transfer market in FUT is anything but stable, large special events like the Team of the Season or the FUT-Birthday significantly affect the market. We show you how you can take advantage of this situation to earn a lot of coins by selling your team.
But beware: One can never predict exactly how the market will behave. With additional events and SBCs, the transfer market can be manipulated unexpectedly by EA. Therefore, our tips should be taken with caution and conducted at your own risk.
The following information is based on experiences with previous FIFA titles.
The TOTS Market Crash
What happens during the market crash? During a market crash, a large number of player cards lose significant value over a short period. Therefore, it is advisable to have as little wealth in the form of cards and as much as possible in coins at this time.
So the crash occurs: During the Team of the Season, a huge number of new, very strong cards enter the game. To have a chance at these cards, many invest in FUT players with FIFA Points and open promo sets or save their packs for the TOTS event.
Due to the very high number of opened sets, there is an oversupply of cards. Likewise, the demand for regular gold cards decreases as many FUT players want to have the nice new TOTS cards in their teams.
The combination of increased supply and decreasing demand leads to the extreme price drop of many FUT cards during the Team of the Season.
That’s why selling can be worthwhile
Why should I sell my cards? Before the event starts, FUT cards still have their normal value and can fetch good prices. So if you are interested in accumulating a lot of coins for the TOTS event, you can still get the most coins for your cards now.
Because during and after the TOTS event, the cards will never have such high value as they do now.

Tip: You can also sell your strong cards and buy them back cheaply during the event. Then you will have your team back and some more coins in your account.
When is the best time? Although the TOTS event is not expected for the next few weeks, it is wise to sell your cards as quickly as possible. Especially due to the YouTube hype, the market crash is already creeping in before the event.
What is the YouTube hype? FIFA streamers and YouTubers consistently report on the TOTS market crash and advise selling the cards. As soon as these videos go online, the prices drop significantly. Here, British YouTubers, with their wide reach, have a significant influence.
Due to these videos, a large part of the fan base sells their players and holds back on buying. Therefore, the crash does not happen suddenly at the release of the TOTS event but slowly builds up over time.
Not all players should be sold
These players you should keep:
- Gold cards that are worth as much as their discard price, so under 1000 coins, will hardly decrease. Therefore, you can keep these.
- High-rated players that are barely used and have a chance to receive a TOTS card will likely not lose value.
These players you should sell:
- Popular high-rated cards like Reus and De Bruyne.
- Or popular cards in the lower 80s.
83s and 84s are the hardest to predict. Here, SBCs usually determine the value.

This is how the market behaved in FUT 18
Example Ronaldo: The normal gold card of Cristiano Ronaldo clearly shows how prices can drop during the TOTS market crash. At the end of the TOTS event, he was almost a bargain.
- One week before the TOTS event: 1,000,000 coins (PS4)
- At the start of the TOTS event: 950,000 coins (PS4)
- 2 weeks into the event: 730,000 coins (PS4)
- At the end of the event: 305,000 coins (PS4)
In summary: If your FUT wealth is important to you and you want enough coins for SBCs and TOTS cards, then sell soon and buy back cheaper at a later time.
However, if you have no ambitions to own an expensive team and you play just for fun, you can safely ignore the TOTS crash.
