The fact that the official women’s World Cup is licensed in FIFA 19 is currently causing heated discussions in the community. Many fans had hoped for something different in FIFA 19.
The Women’s World Cup in FIFA 19
Women’s World Cup is licensed: For the first time, women’s teams were introduced in FIFA 16. Since then, a few women’s national teams have been available in the FIFA series, allowing players to compete against their friends or participate in the so-called “Women’s International Cup” offline.
In FIFA 19, there will be an official, “real” women’s tournament licensed by FIFA for the first time.

Women’s World Cup as a premiere: EA Sports itself promotes this new license as a great “sports video game premiere”. In FIFA 19, there will be the fully licensed “FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019” presentation. The real World Cup will take place from June 7 to July 7, 2019.
Women’s World Cup only in The Journey? So far, it is only known that you can accompany Kim Hunter in The Journey 3 on the way to participating in the World Cup.
With the US team, you will then play for the World Cup trophy in France. Whether the women’s World Cup will also be available outside of the story mode is still unclear.
Fans prefer other features: Among the comments on the trailer and in the FIFA forums, many fans express their anger about the women’s World Cup in FIFA 19. They accuse EA of not listening to the fans’ wishes and instead investing resources in “unnecessary” features.
Some criticisms from fans that received hundreds or thousands of upvotes:
The majority of comments specifically concern the neglected career mode. This should receive as much attention from developers as FUT or The Journey. Fans want career improvements, as the mode has become stale over the years.
Most fans have hardly played with women’s national teams in FIFA anyway. EA prioritizes the wrong things.
However, there are also some users who calm the heated tempers and point out that women also play FIFA and that they should not be the only ones happy about the new licenses of women’s football in FIFA 19.
World Cup license is just the trigger for the anger: Furthermore, many fans are not angry about the women’s World Cup license itself. But rather that EA Sports allows other areas of the game to deteriorate that are more important to them. If EA had already revealed extensive innovations for career and Pro Clubs, the mood regarding the women’s World Cup would be much better.
Perhaps EA will announce some new features during Gamescom that will make the fans happier.
