On the official FIFA Twitch channel from EA, instead of virtual football, there was recently an hour of concentrated German soap power. Here’s what it’s all about.
Anyone who opened FIFA’s official channel on Twitch on May 10, 2019, must have been quite surprised. Instead of broadcasting FIFA, the German RTL documentary soap “Der Blaulichtreport” was shown. It re-enacts fictional operations of police, fire department, and emergency services, accompanied by a camera team.
Why did the Blaulichtreport appear on the Twitch channel? Obviously, the FIFA channel was hacked. By a real prankster who apparently found it amusing to present German documentary soaps to an international audience.
The whole thing lasted over an hour before EA probably pulled the emergency brake and ended the soap fun.
How did the viewers react? Since it was the international channel of FIFA, most viewers did not understand a word of what was happening in the Blaulichtreport episode.
Nevertheless, or perhaps because of this, the event quickly became a major joke, and the viewers had a great time with it.
Therefore, there were a lot of funny comments in the FIFA forum and on Reddit about it:
- “That was the coolest shit I’ve ever seen! How can someone hack EA’s Twitch account and show a German cop reality show? I’m laughing my ass off!”
- “A preview of The Journey [the solo mode of FIFA]? Is Alex Hunter coming back to Bayern?”
- “They used their FUT winnings to develop a German soap simulator. Called “Der Soap 20″ and coming in October.”
- “So much advertising, that fits already.”
- “This content is way better than anything else we see here!”
- “Ah, so EA wants to announce the Beckenbauer icon like this. I’m impressed!”
Other comments referred to the episode shown, in which there was apparently a police operation involving a child:
- “This is a live broadcast of how EA’s gameplay director gets arrested. It was about time!”
- “The child [in the scene] stole the mother’s credit card and bought FIFA Points.”
- “Finally, someone has set the police on EA”
How the hack could happen and what EA intends to do about it is still unknown. After last week already there were problems due to massive server issues with FIFA, the incident is just fuel to the fire for all the fans who are already angry at EA.
