In FIFA 19, extensive information about FUT Champions in Ultimate Team has been released. Among other things, EA is adjusting the number of Weekend League matches and the rewards system.
Many fans demanded changes to the Weekend League, which addressed various issues such as qualification, the number of matches, or FUT Champions rewards.
EA is now listening to the community and has changed the Weekend League qualification with the introduction of Division Rivals. According to the latest information from EA, this will not be the only significant change.
30 Weekend League Matches on Xbox, PS4, and PC
EA listens to the wishes of casual players: It was previously 40 WL matches on consoles, 25 on PC. For many players who play FIFA just as a hobby and do not pursue it professionally like eSports players or YouTubers, 40 games in 3 days were clearly too much. Therefore, most gamers wanted a reduction in the number of matches or a different system, such as the ladder variant.
In response, there will now only be 30 matches in FUT 19 every weekend. Weekly rewards will remain the same despite the reduced time investment to ensure that the Weekend League remains the most profitable mode.
PC players are finally on par. PC players have even more changes. Previously, the weekly rewards were an absolute joke compared to the consoles. With the now equal number of matches, PC gamers will also receive the same rewards as those on consoles. Additionally, there will finally be a Top 100 instead of the previous Top 40.
The Monthly FUT Champions Rewards Are Leaving
No more Monthly Rewards: While the Weekly Rewards remain the same despite the changed number of games, rewards for the entire month will disappear completely. Instead, there will be weekly “Player Picks,” where you can choose from several red FUT Champions cards that suit you.
What does this change mean for us? In principle, this feature is also only positive for the players. Previously, you would be penalized immediately if you did not play a WL in the month. The pack size would always relate to all weekends of a month combined. If you now play three out of four FUT Champions tournaments at “Gold 3” level, you will receive three “Gold 3” rewards instead of one “Silver 1” reward.
Matchmaking System Finally Explained
Fans found matchmaking unfair. Until now, it wasn’t really clear how players were matched against each other. EA is now clearing the air and explaining how Weekend League matches are created. The matchmaking is based on both location and “form”.
Form should ensure fair matches. Each Weekend League starts with each player at a form of 0. For a win (W) you get +1, for a loss (L) -1. For example, a match record of W,L,W,W,W results in a form of 3.
Players with similar forms and appropriate locations will be matched against each other. The purpose of this system is that only the best of the best with an increasing form and thus stronger opponents can still win all matches and reach top places.
Fans Celebrate EA for the Changes to the Weekend League
The community’s reaction to this concession from EA is overwhelmingly positive. PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS writes:

The changes are definitely a clever move by EA, the only group of players that may be somewhat dissatisfied are PC players who chose this platform because of the shorter Weekend League with 25 matches.
