With the FUT Birthday, FIFA 19 celebrates the tenth anniversary of Ultimate Team. Among other things, “FUT Favourites” have been added to the game – who do the fans wish for?
These are FUT Favourites: In the announcement for the FUT Birthday, EA mentioned, among other things, seven anniversary players who will be unlockable as “FUT Favourites” through SBCs or milestones during the event. Something similar has already happened during the Carniball event.
These cards consist of players who have earned a special status in the FIFA community over the past ten years. Three of the Favourites can be earned since the event began: special cards of Gervinho, Ibrahimovic, and Naldo have been available in milestones since Friday evening. However, more will follow.
In the FIFA subreddit, fans discussed their favorite players of recent years before the event. We took a closer look at the wish list – who could still come?
FUT Birthday: These players the fans would love to see
Real “FIFA Legends”: Over the years, different players have stood out in Ultimate Team, who you wouldn’t necessarily have on your radar before (and partly even after). But even today, fans rave about the following players:
Alexander Esswein (FIFA 13)
Speed without end: Alexander Esswein is almost considered a FIFA legend: Although Esswein was not necessarily world-class in real football, his card dominated the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 13. His incredible speed made him one of the most dangerous strikers in the game.
Especially the combination with Marco Reus still gives some FIFA players nightmares today. Since Esswein is currently playable in FIFA 19, he could very well receive a special card for the FUT Birthday. However, the attacker had already been re-released for the FUT Birthday in FIFA 17 – will history repeat itself?
Di Natale / Fabrizio Miccoli (FIFA 13)
Goals made in Italy: This striker combination was, like the duo Reus/Esswein, both feared and admired. The two Italian attackers were extremely popular in FIFA 13 but are hardly candidates for a new Favourites card. Neither of them is currently represented in FIFA 19. For players with Italian teams, this combination could have been a dream.
Ramires (FIFA 16)
The original Kanté: Ramires was one of the classic players in FIFA 16 as well as in previous editions of the game, who you saw in every second Premier League team. The Brazilian from Chelsea brought great values and was especially important for chemistry when connecting Brazilians with a PL team. A Reddit comment: “He was Kanté before we had Kanté.”
Ramires would have been a good candidate for the “Favourites”. But since his move to the Chinese Super League, where he is currently only playing in reserve, the Brazilian is no longer in the game – a new card is therefore almost impossible.
Doumbia – Ibarbo – Gervinho (FIFA 15)
Top trio: Gervinho has already received one of the Favourites cards. Will his two strike partners from FIFA 15 join him? The AS Roma combination of Doumbia, Ibarbo, and Gervinho is still legendary today: “These three were responsible for many broken controllers,” one reads in the forum. The reason: Against this speed storm, hardly anything could be done in FIFA.
The best news: All three are also in FIFA 19 in the game. It’s possible that you may hunt for goals next week alongside Gervinho with another player from the Roma trio.
Jack Butland (FIFA 17)
The unassailable: Speaking of broken controllers: Jack Butland also had a time when he was known for being able to test the patience of FIFA players to the limit. Because the goalkeeper of Stoke City saved every ball in FIFA 17! Some players even considered Butland to be the best goalkeeper in the game – at least when he played in the opposing team.
Even today, Butland is still in FIFA, but he is no longer regarded as overpowered as he was in earlier times. Nevertheless, it is within the realm of possibility that the Stoke keeper could be one of the “Favourites” – and cause broken controllers again.
