EA Sports has released the first reveal trailer for the latest installment of its football series, FIFA 19, showcasing the official announcement of the UEFA license for FIFA 19, which includes the UEFA Champions League and Europa League and introduces several new features.
The Champions League in FUT, Career Mode, and The Journey
New Licenses: The biggest news at EA Play for FIFA 19 was the announcement of the UEFA Champions League. The rights have been acquired from Konami, which had previously used the license for Pro Evolution Soccer. EA stated at the press conference that the Champions League would be available in Career Mode, Kick-Off mode in FUT (Ultimate Team), and in “The Journey.” The Journey: Champions also marks the finale of the story mode.
The features and key information regarding the UEFA license at a glance
- Extensive integration of the Champions League in Kick-Off mode, FIFA Ultimate Team, and Career Mode
- Standalone UEFA Champions League mode, from the group stage to the final. Alternatively, you can create a personal tournament with a European club of your choice.
- Live content updates for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League
- Pre-orders receive early access to FIFA 19 and, starting with the Champions Edition, a CL-FUT player of their choice
- In The Journey: Champions, you take on the role of the young star player Alex Hunter, making an impact in the UEFA Champions League. This is the finale of the story mode and is available only for PS4, PC, and Xbox One
- The German version again features the commentary team of Wolff-Christoph Fuss and Frank Buschmann
- The extent to which the Europa League and the Super Cup will be included is not yet known. But one already knows: They are also in the game:
FIFA 19 includes the UEFA Champions League, with official game presentation, various tournament experiences including UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup … (EA)
Game presentation with official UEFA elements: Jersey crests, match balls, the famous trophies of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup, along with additional broadcast elements like a remix of the Champions League soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, are set to create an authentic UEFA atmosphere.
The Champions League was one of the biggest wishes of FIFA fans. The video was presented at EA’s press conference during E3 2018.
It has been known for some time that EA has acquired the licenses for the Serie A for FIFA 19.
No gameplay video, but release date
And what else was there at the reveal for E3 2018? What about gameplay? Unfortunately, they were quite reserved on this issue. Major gameplay changes were promised, but nothing was shown. Aaron McHardy, Executive Producer, stated that FIFA 19 will provide more control over gameplay.
- The new Active Touch system fundamentally changes ball reception and touches, allowing for tighter ball control, which should also permit more creativity from the player
- The finishing timing gives players more control over shots on goal.
- And there will also be more dynamic, easily accessible tactical changes for the player that support this goal.
- Further gameplay innovations for FIFA 19 can be seen here
It is quite possible that they had to save that for the Sony press conference. Otherwise, a larger focus was on the free World Cup mode in FIFA 18
When does FIFA 19 come out? FIFA 19 will be released on 28.09.2018. The release date for FIFA 19 was casually mentioned in the trailer. Pre-orders can start 3 days earlier on 25.09. The football simulation will be released on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. For the Switch, they aim to provide a better gaming experience with a new engine.
New cover star: Ronaldo had already been speculated to be the cover star based on a piece of artwork. This is now confirmed. According to our poll on the FIFA 19 cover, you would have preferred Mohammed Salah or Thomas Müller.
