In FIFA 18 started on May 29 the World Cup mode. This update for the World Cup also brings a new chemistry system for Ultimate Team. We will explain how it works.
On Tuesday, May 29, at 1 PM, the World Cup mode started. The update is free and brings many innovations, especially for Ultimate Team.
One of them is the new chemistry system. Many of you will wonder why your player chemistry is not at 10 or why you cannot reach 100 team chemistry. We will explain to you in this chemistry guide why this is the case and what you need to consider in squad building.
This is how the FUT cards link to each other
In the World Cup mode for FUT 18, there are three different types of links. They depend on the confederation or continent as well as the nationality of the player.
The Dead Link: Two players from different confederations form a red Dead Link, it brings no chemistry. An example would be Lionel Messi (South America) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Europe).
The Weak Link: Two players from the same confederation but different nations form an orange Weak Link. Here, an example would be Toni Kroos (Europe, Germany) and Paul Pogba (Europe, France).
The Strong Link: Two players from the same confederation and the same nation form a green Strong Link. As an example, you could take any players from a national team, such as David de Gea and Sergio Ramos (both Spain).

There is no Perfect Link in the World Cup update, clubs do not count!
Icons link with a Weak Link to each player. If they have the same nation or it is another icon, they even connect with a Strong Link.
World Cup chemistry system: The differences to normal FUT
In Ultimate Team, it is usually enough if a player only has Weak Links to bring him to 10 chemistry. This is no longer the case in the World Cup mode.
Loyalty: Pulled cards initially come without loyalty bonus. Only after 10 games do they receive it. After that, it gives +1 chemistry.
Manager: Managers have a confederation and a nation that cannot be changed. They give every player of the same continent a bonus of +2 chemistry.
Position: As always, a player has more chemistry when playing in accordance with his card position. You can change this normally with position cards.
How do I get players to full chemistry?
It is more difficult in the World Cup mode to get players to 10 chemistry. An exact formula does not exist yet, so we give here a few examples of player chemistry (based on the correct position):
- A player who only has Strong Links reaches 10 chemistry points.
- A player who only has Weak Links reaches 8 chemistry points.
- A player who only has Dead Links reaches 2 chemistry points.
As you can also see from the screenshots from the capture event, some cards that would have had more chemistry in normal FUT now have less.
In general: It takes more green Strong Links in the World Cup mode to balance out weak connections than usually. For this, the manager bonus now brings two, instead of just one bonus point. Green Links are now easier to obtain, as popular players are concentrated in a few nations.
Nevertheless, the chemistry system could cause upheaval: Hybrid teams with players from different confederations will be significantly more difficult.
