With FUT Birthday, the next big promo in FIFA 18 Ultimate Team history is coming. Here are the details on the four upcoming events: Team of the Season (TOTS), the World Cup mode, Team of the Knockout Stage, and the Futties. When can we expect the next events in FIFA 18?
After we left FUTMAS, the Team of the Year (TOTY), and FUT Birthday behind us, we are gradually approaching the final stretch in terms of events in FUT 18.
Besides smaller promos like new league SBCs, the Player of the Month (POTM), and the latest Icon SBCs, we can expect only 4 major events in FIFA 18 Ultimate Team.
We summarize all the information about the events and possible release dates.

The Team of the Season (TDS)
Update, April 15: The release of the TOTS is on April 27 this year. Here are all the details about the “Team of the Season.”
Traditionally, the Team of the Season comes – as the name suggests – after the end of the season. All major leagues receive their own Team of the Season, each featuring the 23 best players from their respective league. Similar to the Team of the Year (TDJ), the players have a blue card design and significantly upgraded attributes.
Last year the first TOTS was released on May 12, and the promo lasted until June 30. However, this year the FIFA World Cup takes place in Russia, and a separate event in FUT is also expected. The World Cup starts on June 14 – therefore, fifauteam anticipates that the first TOTS in FIFA 18 will already be released on April 27 and should run until June 4.
There shouldn’t be significant deviations from the leagues last year; these leagues had their own TOTS in FUT 17:
- Premier League
- Eredivisie
- Pro League
- Bundesliga
- Süper Lig
- Dawry Jameel League
- Ligue 1
- Liga NOS
- Liga BBVA Bancomer
- LaLiga
- Primera Divison
- Russian League
- Serie A
- Rest of the World
- EFL (Second English League)

Additionally, there is the “Most Consistent”-TOTS. This includes players who performed consistently throughout the season but never received a special card, such as an Inform. The other is the “Ultimate Team of the Season”. It features the best cards of all TDS players. Moreover, a TOTS for the MLS will also be released in August.
Team of the Tournaments – Knockout Stage (TOTT or TOTKS)
Similar to the “Team of the Tournaments – Group Stage” cards that were released in December, there is also a special team for the Knockout Stage: The Team of the Tournaments – KO Round.
Only the best 23 players from the Champions League and Europa League make it in. Only performances during the knockout matches are considered. The group stage does not count anymore for the evaluation.
The release of the blue special cards is expected soon, possibly after the semifinals. Not all knockout matches need to be completed; last year the “Team of the Knockout Stage” was already released on April 21, before the Champions League semifinals.
The World Cup Mode
Update, April 30: The World Cup mode for FIFA 18 has been officially confirmed. The release is on May 29 and a free DLC for the World Cup is expected. Here are all the details about the World Cup mode!
Update, April 27: A post on reddit includes some leaks about the World Cup mode in FIFA. It contains PS Store images and a possible release date: The World Cup mode could be released on May 27! With such leaks, caution is always advised – for reliable information, one should wait for official announcements from EA.
Original article:
During the last World Cup in 2014 in Brazil, there was a corresponding event in FIFA Ultimate Team. With the “Path to Glory” cards, EA has already set the first steps towards the World Cup mode for FIFA 18.
It is confirmed that there will be a DLC, an event, or something similar for the FIFA World Cup. The release date is still speculative; it is only certain that nothing will be released in the first quarter, i.e., before April. Additionally, it is unlikely that EA will diminish the hype around the TOTS by having both events overlap.
In FUT 14, there was a special mode with unique World Cup cards, tournaments, and a dedicated system. Drawn players could not be traded and could only be used within the “World Cup mode”.

What awaits us in FIFA 18 is still completely open. However, it is very likely that there will be an integration of the “Path to Glory” cards, for example for Squad Building Challenges.
The FUTTIES Event
The last event in Ultimate Team is traditionally the Futties event. While many eyes will already be on FIFA 19, there will be a new batch of special cards and SBCs in FUT 18.
Futties cards can be voted on by the community based on a selection from EA. They usually feature extremely popular players – in FIFA 17, for example, Chris Smalling and Jack Butland were included.
The release of the Futties Festival is presumed to be on July 20, and the event should last until August 24. Since the release of FIFA 19 is expected only a month later, this event with the pink special cards is the last chance to give your Ultimate Team the final touch.
