In FIFA 18 Ultimate Team, the new “Team of the Week” is released every Wednesday. This has now come to an end for the time being; there will be no TOTW in FUT 18 for the next weeks.
Especially at the beginning of the FIFA season, the Team of the Week is a highlight every Wednesday at 19:00. When all top leagues are in action, the TOTW is often filled with strong cards.
On Wednesday, June 6th, EA Sports surprised the community by cancelling TOTW 38. Instead, new SBCs were introduced for the World Cup mode.
On EA’s Spanish YouTube channel, it was mentioned that the TDW will actually be on hold for several weeks.
The TOTW will be paused for the next weeks
In the video from June 6, the “EA SPORTS FIFA ESPAÑA” channel mentions the Team of the Week at one point.
It is stated in Spanish that the Team of the Week will be paused for a few weeks. The TOTW 37 was therefore the last for the time being.

FUT player base is disappointed
Even though it can be inferred that the TDW will return in a few weeks, many players are likely to be disappointed.
Not everyone plays the World Cup mode; some stay with the regular Ultimate Team. Given the international matches, there could have been some good cards in TOTW 38. Many were hoping for a Third Inform of Josef Martinez, for example.
After the World Cup, when the TOTW presumably returns, there won’t be any major international matches for the time being. Moreover, most leagues would have halted their activities by then.
If the Team of the Week returns, it will rather be a “Team of the Weak,” as the community often jokingly calls it.
What could come instead of the TOTW?
Instead of TOTW 38, the first National World Cup SBCs were introduced. In this, you exchange a team from a nation for the best player of that country, for Colombia, for example, James Rodriguez.
In the first batch, EA released four National SBCs. It is likely that there will be one for each country. It’s quite possible that four more will be released every Wednesday. However, since the last SBCs would presumably be presented only after the World Cup, EA will probably introduce new National SBCs twice a week instead.
But what replaces the TOTW in regular FUT? With the “Path to Glory” selection cards, there are still dynamic items for the World Cup. Thus, special cards should also be released during the World Cup. One option could be to introduce a special team after each World Cup match day instead of the Team of the Week.
For example: On June 19, every group would have finished their first match day, so EA could release a “Team of the 1st World Cup match day” in packs on June 20. Then on June 25, the “Team of the 2nd World Cup match day” could be released.
However, this is all speculation. What is certain is that there will be upgrades for the PTG cards during the World Cup, and there will be no regular Team of the Week for the next weeks.
