In FIFA, the spin-off FIFA 18 has been officially announced. A Season 2 of the story mode “The Journey” is coming.
No one will be really surprised: In 2017, there will be another installment of the successful FIFA soccer simulation. The publisher EA has officially confirmed that FIFA 18 is in development.
According to CEO Andrew Wilson, FIFA 18 will build on the foundation laid with FIFA 17: The story mode “The Journey” will continue. It will have a second season with new characters and new storylines, according to Wilson.
He also notes that the development team in Vancouver is working on innovations for this year’s FIFA that are extremely innovative and affect many aspects of the game – including FUT (Ultimate Team). Every year, the number of FUT players increases by nearly 10 percent, which is why EA will also rely on this successful model in FIFA 18. In addition, the upcoming installment is set to be the most immersive FIFA yet.
The Journey – EA wants to build on the success
According to Wilson, not only is FUT successful, but also the story mode “The Journey”. Over 10 million fans have already played it. It was well received in the community. One of the few criticisms mentioned after the release was that The Journey was too short.
Now we know: Story content will be included in FIFA 18.
In The Journey, you step into the shoes of young soccer talent Alex Hunter. You experience how the beginnings of a professional soccer player unfold and get insights behind the scenes of the professional business: You must sign sponsorship contracts, complete training sessions, conduct interviews, and prove yourself for the starting eleven. Your grandfather Jim Hunter, who himself looks back on a successful professional career, is always by your side.
Your best friend from childhood also plays an important role in the story. However, after one season, it is already over. In FIFA 18, another season in the Premier League is expected to be told – and the first steps of Alex Hunter in the national team.
