Even though the focus is now on FIFA 19, many people still play the career mode from FIFA 18. Curiously, the 11-year-old Alex Hunter is available on the transfer market.
EA seems to want to make Alex Hunter a real brand. After Parts 1 and 2 of The Journey, the young superstar is leading to Real Madrid in the 3rd part of the story. Even jerseys with his name printed are being sold in the “Real Madrid” online shop.
The fictional superstar is also making a name for himself in FIFA 18. Recently, images surfaced showing how an 11-year-old Alex Hunter can be signed in manager mode.
Alex Hunter in career mode? It seems to work
The young Hunter is on the market: Reddit user forfudgecake posted a screenshot from career mode. It shows an 11-year-old Alex Hunter as a free player in the manager’s career. Since he hasn’t been scouted yet, his rating is not visible. According to the user, it is around 2. Only the positions, age, form, and morale are visible.
Negotiation sequences are visible but crash: The user even enters negotiations with the young Alex, where he sits next to his advisor and seems eager in the discussions. However, as soon as the player agrees with Hunter on a role in the club, the game crashes. Ultimately, the transfer fails due to this bug.
Alex is not the only one, his sister Kim Hunter is even playable
There are more “Hunters”: Alex is by far not the only character from The Journey who appeared in forfudgecake’s career. Kim Hunter, Alex’s sister, was substituted during a match against Bayern Munich on the side of FCB. On the transfer market, older Alex Hunters, three Danny Williams, and Gareth Walker as a child can also be found.
Control Kim Hunter herself? When he started a manager career with FC Bayern, the player could control Kim herself. However, the young Alex was not in the team, but many curious players with names like “Older Head 1”, “Teen 1”, or “5” were present. Jim Hunter, Alex’s grandfather from “The Journey,” has also made it into the Bayern roster.
How can you get the Hunters into your own career?
More of a bug than a feature. It became clear with the curious names that this is a bug and not a new feature or Easter egg. Also, because the market of free players was flooded with kickers like “Older Head 2”, which partly combined positions like goalkeeper, left forward, right forward, and center forward in one player.
Is the bug reproducible? The reddit user states that he does not know how he could have damaged his save file. However, we have a few hints:
- It is FIFA 18 on the Xbox
- It was a new save and directly in September of the first season
- The user downloaded the game as a download from the store
That one can intentionally trigger the bug seems rather unlikely – unfortunately. Many fans found the error amusing and wished they could choose before starting a new career whether the Hunters would be part of it.
Unlike the previous innovations in career mode for FIFA 19, that would be quite a varied change that would surely provide a laugh or two in the manager career.
