Taking Corners in FIFA 18 – with these tips and tricks, you can successfully convert and defend corners. You can quickly practice these tips to score more goals from corner kicks.
If things aren’t going well during the game, you still have set pieces to win a match in FIFA 18 – like corners.
Taking a corner is quite straightforward: With the cursor, you determine where the ball should go in the penalty area. Then you set the strength with which the corner kick should be taken, hoping that one of your players will get to the ball and shoot it into the goal.
There is no 100% guarantee that you will score a goal from a corner. However, with the following tricks, you can increase your chances of scoring.
Converting Corners in FIFA 18 – Tactic 1
In this corner kick variation, you deliver the ball high to the 5-meter area – approximately level with the short post. Here’s how to proceed:
- Choose a corner taker with solid curve values so that the ball comes into the penalty area in a slight arc. Use a right-footed player from the left side and a left-footed player from the right side to ensure the ball has a curve towards the goal.
- Next, select a player in the center who is strong in headers and as big as possible. You do this with L1 (PS4) or LB (Xbox).
- Aim with the cursor close to the 5-meter area at the height of the short post. The optimal position is here:

- If you know that the opponent is pulling the goalkeeper out early, you can also aim a bit further away from the goal.
- While aiming with the cursor, call another player near with L2 or LT. This creates more space at the near post since the opponent usually pulls one of their players out as well.
- Now load the corner powerfully with about three bars.
- Try to create some space with your selected player using L1 or LB or position yourself in front of the defenders so that you have a higher likelihood of getting to the ball. Now deliver the ball in.
- Press the shoot button to score. You can aim the header towards the far corner.

Converting Corners in FIFA 18 – Tactic 2
In this corner kick variation, you do not directly play the ball high into the penalty area, but instead play it flat. It is recommended when you don’t have large, header-strong players.
- As soon as the ball crosses the line and the referee signals for a corner, press L2 or LT and only then skip the cutscene.
- A second player will immediately stand next to the corner flag, whom you can quickly pass the ball to. You don’t need to first call a player who then approaches leisurely.
- Pass the ball flat to the player standing next to you. He can take a few steps towards the goal, but will then pass to a teammate standing near the penalty area corner.
- With this player, you can now curl a bent (long-range) shot towards the far corner. From about 16-20 meters, the chances are high that the ball will go in. Or you can dribble or pass closer to the goal.

Defending Corners
When defending corners, you need to react quickly to the opponent’s actions.
In most cases, the opponent will deliver the ball high into the penalty area. You can preemptively press the button to pull the goalkeeper out. This way, your goalkeeper will catch all corner kicks that come close to the goal.
If the ball doesn’t come close to the goal, then keep the goalkeeper in and try to close shooting lanes and get to the ball.
There is no “reliable method” here – you need to respond quickly to the opponent’s actions.
