In the last 24 hours, Black Friday ran at FIFA 17. I did not enjoy it.
Yesterday, on November 25th, it was Black Friday. The day when bargain hunters and deal seekers venture into stores and eagerly scour the internet to grab as many bargains as possible for little money.
Black Friday was also celebrated in FUT 17. And I must say: I was looking forward to it. In the days before, I had been diligently hoarding coins, resisting all lucrative offers, and not wasting a single coin, so I could strike hard on Black Friday. But that did not happen – because I quickly lost interest.
During the last 24 hours, flash SBCs were active, hourly pack offers came, and you even received this jersey as a gift:
This sounds perfectly fine. However, this day caused frustration for many fans. Why is that?
“I have no offers! – Oh, already sold out
The majority of hourly packs came with a “global limit”. This means that all players have one hour to grab a certain number of packs. However, it did not even take an hour: In some cases, it took less than a minute for the sets to be completely sold out. Those who arrived too late went away empty-handed.
I tracked the offers yesterday for several hours to keep our “FUT 17 Black Friday” article up to date – and by 9 PM, every flash round with a global limit was indeed gone in no time. Fans complained to EA Sports on FB about where the offers were. They logged in immediately, but no sets were displayed to them. They wondered if it was a bug.
At 9 PM, EA Sports increased the quota and started a bonus round shortly before, which was desperately needed. However, by this time, many had already lost interest – after waiting in vain for “bargains” for 6 hours.
Much money for nothing
Those lucky enough to secure one of these packs were not satisfied either. Because they expected: “Now I’m spending so many coins or FIFA Points, something decent should be in the set!” Packs were often available for 125,000 coins or 2500 FIFA Points. Note: 2200 FIFA Points are worth about 20 Euros!
You can’t really call it a bargain. Even if you spend many coins, you still have no guarantee that there is a strong player in the set. Some fans even demanded their money back on the EA Sports FB page. Because “there was nothing in it!” Just players who definitely wouldn’t justify 125,000 coins. However, every FUT player must be aware that “pack opening” is based on luck. There is no guarantee. Whoever purchases a pack must be aware of the risk.
Basically, there were no “bargains” at Black Friday in FUT 17. There were only expensive set offers that are normally not available or available only rarely. The standard sets cost the same as before. One could have talked about “bargains” if they had been available at half price or otherwise discounted. Yes, there were sets on offer where you received more rare items for your money, but spending over 100,000 coins for that – I refuse to call that a “bargain”.
What I would have liked:
- Real “bargains”, discounted sets.
- And a significantly higher “Global Limit”, especially at the beginning of Black Friday – or none at all. If a flash round is over after just a few seconds, it is no fun.
