Multiplayer games are a guarantee for good profit! According to the BIU – the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software e.V. – multiplayer titles and open-world games were particularly popular among German gamers in 2016.
The Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software e.V. – the association of manufacturers and publishers of games in Germany – evaluated the sales charts for 2016 and presented its results. According to the BIU, especially three newly released games are doing well: FIFA 17, Uncharted 4, and Battlefield 1.
Multiplayer rocks!
All three games received a special award for selling more than 500,000 copies on one platform. FIFA and Battlefield 1 even achieved this on multiple platforms. The football epic FIFA 17 recorded over a million sales! While Uncharted 4 is a solo title, Battlefield 1 and FIFA 16 are, on the other hand, multiplayer games.
According to BIU CEO Felix Falk, multiplayer and open-world games are the most successful titles among German players. Over 18 million German gamers played games in multiplayer mode according to the BIU. This corresponds to 27 percent of internet users over 16. This number is further divided as follows:
- 8.4 million players play online in multiplayer against or with each other
- 4.7 million gamers still play in the same room as their teammates
- 4.9 million players use both the internet and the local multiplayer mode
- 14 million players (21 percent of all gamers) in Germany play up to 50 percent of their gaming time in multiplayer games
The data used by the BIU regarding the use of multiplayer games was collected by YouGov Deutschland GmbH (an analysis agency) between July 11, 2016 and July 13, 2016. A total of 2,023 people participated in the survey. The results were weighted and are representative of the German population aged 16 and over.
