The “Any” position, also commonly referred to in German as “Any“, allows you to control all non-human players – the rest, basically. Opinions are divided on whether to play with an Any or not. Some Clubs that play without Any and prefer to rely on the computer are given unflattering titles. But is it really beneficial to occupy the Any position?
Generally, the answer is yes! If you have an excellent FIFA player in your ranks who also likes to take on this position, let them play Any for sure. This simply enables more options in build-up play, and defensively you can go at it more aggressively or intelligently than the computer ever could.
However, controlling the “computer players” is described as quite difficult, slow, and cumbersome. Many struggle with controlling these players and get extremely frustrated that they do not react as intended.
Moreover, there are also a few advantages to playing without Any. Typically, the computer maintains order better, which can be lost due to chaotic Any play. Additionally, the person playing Any may not always be able to move their own Pro as desired, as there are occasionally issues selecting which player to control. This also causes frustration for the Any player – and also for the entire team.
So decide for yourselves: if you have a calm and excellent Any player, they can significantly influence the game. If you don’t have one, you can still make an impact as captain.
Tips for the Captain
Even without Any, you can tell your computer players how to behave. Your captain, marked with a “C” in the lobby and who must start the game, has several options on the field to influence the match.
Using the arrow keys left or right, you can adjust the game to be more offensive or defensive. With key combinations using the arrow key “up” or “down”, you can select quick tactics that temporarily influence CPU behavior, like counterattack, high pressure, or team pressing. Be sure to use these keyboard combinations frequently!
Additionally, the captain has the option to bring the goalkeeper out. Compared to previous FIFA installments, the goalkeeper now takes significantly longer to return to goal. So, if you want to feint a brief advance by the goalkeeper, make sure he can return to goal in time; otherwise, he may end up being awkwardly far ahead of the net and can easily be overcome. This intelligent goalkeeper play has been significantly complicated.
Don’t forget to have fun with team play!
This tip is perhaps the most important one here. If you approach things too rigorously, maybe even insult your teammates or put too much pressure on them, it won’t end well. So just have fun, take it easy, and success will come on its own. Of course, the game often presents moments that can drive you to despair. But insults or a controller thrown around the room won’t help much.
A good club atmosphere is also ensured by decent team play. If there are only egoists on the field, it’s no fun and leads to frustration. Pass more often than crashing into opponents and losing the ball. Also, try to find the better-placed player in the penalty area rather than just shooting the ball yourself. A brilliant, well-timed pass can sometimes be more satisfying than a lucky long-range goal.
Play like you would expect from your teammates. And try to keep your position; good positioning is worth its weight in gold in Pro Clubs. So, enjoy your time on the pitch!
