In FIFA 16: Ultimate Team, everything revolves around “Coins.” We want to look at how you can quickly and efficiently get your hands on the coins.
The FIFA 16: Ultimate Team mode is no walk in the park – especially if you want to play this mode as successfully as possible: You need to supply your players with contracts and numerous other consumable items, you may keep a manager, and from time to time, the team should be strategically strengthened with new players. For all this, you need one thing: Coins. But how do you get these golden objects of desire that are essential for a successful “Ultimate Team”? Here are some tips, tricks, and methods that we want to present now.
Earn coins through game rewards
After completing any FUT matches, you will receive game rewards in the form of coins. This is probably the most enjoyable method to earn coins. However, you will have to invest an incredible amount of time until you have accumulated a large number of coins. Just playing alone will not make you a “Coin Millionaire” very quickly. How you can still get the best out of your matches, we will show you now.
How to calculate game rewards
The game coins you earn after a match can be calculated with the following formula:
Game Coins = (Skill Rewards x Multiplier) + Completion Reward + EAS FC Coin Boost + Competitive Reward
How Skill Rewards are composed
In the following table, you can see how many coins you receive for your actions during a match:
You read this table as follows: Take the example of “Scored Goals,” meaning the goals that you score. For each goal, you get 40 coins. However, you can make a maximum of 200 coins from goals, so it suffices if you score 5 goals in one game. You will not be rewarded for more.
You also get coins for shots on target, successful tackles, corners, games without conceding, passing accuracy in %, possession in %, and player of the match.
Advantages, however, are given for conceded goals, fouls, cards, and offsides. The multiplier that affects the skill rewards depends on the importance and difficulty of the game mode and the opponents. It also takes into account whether and how many matches you quit. These are the maximum limits:
- 0.63 Online Seasons
- 0.88 Online Tournaments
- 1.13 Online Single Matches
- 0.36 Singleplayer Seasons
- 0.25 Singleplayer Tournaments
How the completion reward is calculated
To reach the maximum value of 325 coins for the completion reward, you must complete the game. Depending on how much time you played, you will only receive a portion of these coins if you quit early. This is how the completion reward is calculated:
Completion Reward = 325 x minutes played / 90
Additionally, you can unlock EAS FC Coin Boosts. As long as the boosts are active, you can grab up to 1000 extra coins per game. However, these boosts expire after a certain number of matches.
You will also receive rewards in the form of coins, when you win a tournament or achieve certain objectives in a season. Here you can grab a maximum of these coins:
- 15,000 coins for Online Seasons
- 8,200 coins for Singleplayer Seasons
- 20,000 coins for certain tournaments
So, how can you get the most out of the FUT matches? Try to maximize the skill rewards, activate your coin boosts in the catalog, and the most important thing: Swinnings. At the end of a tournament or season, the most coins await.
Coins through trading? Here’s how to trade successfully
The coins you earn after matches are rarely enough to acquire the long-desired players you want for your Ultimate Team. One method to accelerate the generation of coins is trading. This is also very time-consuming and can turn into real work. But if you trade successfully, this method can bring in many coins. The principle of trading is simple: you buy a player or another card as cheaply as possible and sell it at a higher price. It sounds straightforward and uncomplicated.
However, there are two catches:
- EA charges a fee for each trade. This EA fee is 5%. In other words, if you sell a player for 1000 coins on the transfer market, you will only receive 950 coins. EA will keep the remaining 50 coins. These 5% loss must be taken into account for each trading action. Because at higher amounts, these 5% can be significant.
- There is no guarantee that you will be able to sell the purchased players or items again. Prices on the transfer market are volatile. A player may lose value quickly and you may not be able to sell them. Then you’re stuck with the costs and may have to sell them at a loss. Losses are unfortunately part of trading.
There are several methods to approach trading. The following will present two methods. But beware: None of them guarantees success.
The 59th Minute Method
The transfer market has hundreds of thousands of players and items available at all times. How do you find a bargain? Especially since the introduction of price ranges, it has become more challenging to find really good deals. But occasionally, a careless player might list a player very cheaply. When the buy now price is low, it’s worth jumping at the chance. The problem is, you won’t be the only one watching for such deals.
To stay ahead of your competitors for these bargains, you can use the 59th Minute Method. This involves looking not at the players whose auction timer is almost up, but those whose time still runs for about 59 minutes. Most players set the offered time to one hour, so you have the best chance of snatching up cheap deals during this time. You just need to refresh the page often and be patient.
The Maintenance Method
The FIFA 16 FUT servers need maintenance from time to time so that EA Sports can fix occurring bugs. These maintenance works are usually announced in advance or can also occur unexpectedly. Often they last several hours.
You can take advantage of these maintenance works: Because during this time, the transfer market is not paused. EA themselves recommend setting a satisfactory minimum price for your cards before announced maintenance to avoid unpleasant surprises. However, many PC and console players do not heed this advice. Therefore, you need to place cheap offers shortly before maintenance and just wait until the work is completed. The cheaply acquired cards should then belong to you. It is necessary for you to stay informed about when EA is conducting maintenance and to respond flexibly to these times.
Further notes and tips on trading in FIFA 16
- As mentioned: There is no guarantee of success. You can make a lot of coins quickly with trading, but also lose a lot.
- A certain starting capital is necessary to acquire the cards you want to trade.
- Keep in mind that it is not only players on the transfer market. You can also use consumables, like fitness cards or contracts, for trading.
- Monitor the market! This is probably the most important tip. Which players and cards are best suited changes over time, so a list of the “best players to trade” is not fruitful.
- Moreover, the transfer markets of the various platforms differ. Whether you want to earn coins on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, or Old-Gen consoles (PS3, Xbox 360), always monitor your market.

Can you also buy coins?
To quickly get coins, some players utilize offers on certain websites to buy coins – for real money. However, I strongly advise against this, as there are many sites that will scam you and only want to relieve you of your coins, and this can lead to an account ban by EA. Such transactions involving coins can even result in a permanent online ban for all EA games. EA Sports positions itself clearly on this:
We show cheaters the red card!
If you want to earn coins, do it through playing or trading. While this is time-consuming, it is completely free. And with EA, you won’t encounter any problems.
