Only a few days left until the Early Access of the Shadowbringers addon for Final Fantasy XIV on June 28. We’ll show you how to unlock the new job Gunbreaker.
What is the Gunbreaker? This new classless job of the Shadowbringers expansion is a tank, like Paladin or Dark Knight. With Gunbreaker, you’ll be responsible for protecting the group by keeping the enemies’ attention on you.
The Gunbreaker has a wide arsenal of buffs that can reduce damage taken by itself and the group. Its weapon is the famous Gunblade, which was first used by Squall Lionheart in Final Fantasy VIII.
How to access the second new job, Dancer, can be read here: This is how you unlock the Dancer.
Where do I unlock Gunbreaker? The first quest for Gunbreaker can be found here:
- Quest name: The Lost Gunbreaker
- Location: New Gridania (X:11.5 / Y:11.9)
- NPC: Honest Soldier of Nophica’s Crew
- Requirements: Ownership of the Shadowbringers expansion and at least one Warrior or Mage job at level 60.
After unlocking it, several more quests will follow until you reach level 70. Once the names and locations of these quests are known, we will add them here.
What level does Gunbreaker start at? The new tank job starts at level 60 immediately after unlocking. You also receive a job crystal right away, as it does not have a base class like “A Realm Reborn” jobs.
How to prepare for unlocking it: If you want to unlock Gunbreaker as quickly as possible, you should log out at the indicated quest location the day before the 24-hour server maintenance.
- The server maintenance begins on June 27 at 11 AM our time
- And ends on June 28, expected at the same time

What armor does Gunbreaker use? As Gunbreaker is a tank job, it shares armor with the other tanks. So if you want to prepare for levels 60 to 70, you can get defense gear sets from the market board or for Allagan stones.
However, it is quite possible that the first quest of Gunbreaker rewards you with a suitcase of basic equipment. This was the case with the Samurai and Red Mage in the Stormblood expansion.
