The Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV was confirmed years ago by Phil Spencer. However, there has been silence on it since then. Director Yoshida commented on it in our interview.
This is the situation regarding the Xbox version: Discussions about a possible Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV have been ongoing for years. At a X019 conference, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed that the MMORPG will be available on their consoles:
[…] You can be sure that we will bring the game [FFXIV] to Xbox.
However, it has already been 2 years since that statement, with no new information about a possible release on Xbox.
What Yoshida said: During the press tour for the new addon Endwalker, we were able to ask director Naoki Yoshida a few questions from MeinMMO. This included a brief question about the Xbox version at the end of the interview.
Yoshida reacted surprisingly with laughter and replied:
To be honest, that is the number 1 question that I cannot answer at the moment. We are still in discussions with Microsoft, and they are very productive and helpful regarding this. Therefore, I don’t want players to lose hope.
Please, don’t lose hope [for an Xbox version]. If there is good news, we will definitely share it properly with the players.

In an interview with gamingbolt.com, he confirmed the statement again. There is much he wants to discuss regarding the Xbox version, but cannot, Yoshida said. However, he is confident that the time for that will come.
Fans can be assured that the Xbox version of the MMORPG has not been forgotten or quietly canceled.
What could this mean? Longtime fans of FFXIV know that major changes in the MMORPG often happen very slowly. A revamp of the jobs or entirely new systems occur almost exclusively every 2 years with the addon release.
The FFXIV team works under a very strict schedule to regularly deliver new content for the MMORPG and “on the side” work on innovations like graphical upgrades for the PS5. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the already announced Xbox version is still pending.
Yoshida said in January 2021 to VG24/7:
Since we are currently busy developing Endwalker and preparing the PS5 version, which follows the service of the title on PS4, we would be happy to return to the Xbox version once everything has settled!
The PS5 version has since been released and the release of Endwalker is scheduled for November 23. The FFXIV team is working on the final adjustments and refinements.
It seems like a good time to officially announce the Xbox version now. Perhaps during the next producer stream for Endwalker, which will take place before the release in November.
