For some time, there have been rumors about a possible Final Fantasy 16 and that the head of the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is supposed to be responsible for it. In a stream, he was explicitly asked about it and spoke clearly on the matter.
What are these rumors? A few days ago, on May 30th, we reported at MeinMMO that FFXIV head Naoki Yoshida is working on a new game. However, what game exactly it is remains unknown.
In the context of these reports, there were numerous claims and leaks suggesting that the next official installment in the series, namely Final Fantasy XVI, would be developed under Yoshida. According to the leaks, it was even supposed to be announced in the summer of 2020.
However, Yoshida has now addressed the question from a fan in a livestream and clearly dismissed the rumors.
Yoshida: “These are fake news”
This is what Yoshida says about it: According to the website RPGsite.net, Yoshida is not at all pleased with the rumors currently circulating. For him, these are false information that have been spread:
It seems that big fake news has been spread. I’ll say it clearly: It’s annoying. I will continue to be responsible for FF14 for several years, as long as I don’t die of illness or an accident. So please, ignore all unofficial announcements. It’s so bothersome.
That FFXIV will continue for a while, Yoshida already revealed in an interview with MeinMMO. Apparently, he still stands by that.
He takes a clear stance on the statements and rumors of recent times. At least he himself will not be working on a Final Fantasy 16. However, that doesn’t mean that Yoshida is not involved in other Final Fantasy games.
What can we expect then? The work on Yoshida’s new project was officially announced in April 2019 – so fans can rely on that. The project is said to be really big. All further information about Final Fantasy 16 or the projects that Yoshida is supposed to be involved in should be treated with caution. After all, Yoshida himself has warned about this.
