Apex Legends was trolled by the Twitter account of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) due to its rare updates. However, neither the fans nor the developers wanted to accept the mockery from the fast-food chain and trolled back.
What did KFC do? The fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has its own Twitter channel called “KFC Gaming”, which is all about games. It shares memes and funny information about games.
On May 13, 2019, KFC Gaming posted a meme that made fun of Apex Legends. It features a sausage-shaped figure poking the Apex logo with a stick and saying “Come on, do something…”
The implied meaning is that Apex Legends is dead and that attempts to revive it by poking it are in vain. This likely stems from the fact that Apex Legends only receives updates rarely, while the competition in the form of Fortnite rolls out a new update every week.
The reason for this is that at Respawn Entertainment, they treat employees more gently and do not want to establish such crazy crunch time as is apparently the case with Epic Games and Fortnite.
Respawn Entertainment trolls back
How is the community reacting? Through the jokes about the state of the game and that it should “do something”, KFC may be suggesting that Respawn is not working quickly and thoroughly enough to keep the game attractive.
However, this did not sit well with the fans. Thus, under the tweet from KFC, the notorious “Silence, Brand” meme quickly emerged. This means that a company or brand has gone too far and should just “shut up”.
How do the developers react? In the meantime, the developers have also commented on KFC’s remark. Apex developer Rayme Wilson made the following pointed comment on Twitter:
“Dear Brand. We have tons of stuff planned, but it takes a while. We can’t ‘hyper-fry’, ‘flash-flambé’, or ‘crispy-inject’ or whatever you do with your tasty bird meat. This gameplay is handcrafted, with old-world methods. In the meantime, eat some chicken, we’ll be done soon!”
Wilson’s tweet was well received by fans. They praised her for the remark and showed understanding for the developers’ situation:
- “It’s really bad that so many people expect Respawn to push the workforce through hell to create weekly updates just because Epic Games does it…”
- “It’s pretty awful for a chicken place to throw out such comments.”
