Windows Central has given Far Cry 5 the best rating so far with five out of five stars and praises the explosive shooter gameplay, the hypnotic villains, and the breathtaking story. Although they note that more changes would have benefited the title, this would be a really high-level critique. Fans of Far Cry or open-world sandbox games in general could not ignore Far Cry 5.
GamingBolt – “Open-world masterclass”
GamingBolt rates Far Cry 5 a solid 9 out of 10 and praises the interesting environment and the fascinating, well-written, and well-voiced characters. The exploration of the game world feels organic and is a lot of fun. Additionally, the arcade could potentially consume countless hours of gameplay. One negative point mentioned is that the unfocused storytelling does not do justice to the premise.
PC Games – “Varied and well-made, but structurally split”
PC Games describes Far Cry 5 as a competently made sequel that does not know what it wants to be. They give a rating of 81 percent. The beautifully designed and varied game world is praised, while the low difficulty level is received negatively. According to PC Games, the game feels unfinished due to technical shortcomings. Moreover, players are promised the freedom to approach missions as they wish, but in reality, they are penalized for taking advantage of the promised gameplay freedom during a quest.
GamePro – “Fun action & a villain to fall asleep to”
GamePro gives 80 out of 100 points and states that Far Cry 5 strongly reminds of its predecessors, and one is mainly busy ticking off small tasks. However, the decision to not use a predefined protagonist in the game is welcomed. Anyone looking for superficial fun would, however, find enjoyment in Far Cry 5.
GameStar – “Cult goes differently”
GameStar awards 79 out of 100 points and criticizes that Ubisoft does so little with the surprising scenario of Far Cry 5. Additionally, Seeds’ cult movement in the game hardly gains substance by the end. The story disappoints across the board, but Far Cry 5 is still a good shooter. The beautiful landscapes and the cutscenes are praised, and numerous details of US culture can be found throughout.
Destructoid – “Violence is the mother tongue of Far Cry 5 and the game speaks it well”
Destructoid takes a more critical stance on Far Cry 5 and gives 7.5 out of 10 points. The game creates a sense of urgency from the start but quickly falls back into the established framework of the series. Players may be attacked by cult members at regular intervals, but on the other hand, they can spend their time fishing, hunting, or exploring. The game is a solid first-person shooter in a vibrant, breathtaking environment. Although Joseph Seed and Eden’s Gate function better in theory than in practice, the doomsday cult marks a departure for the franchise that pays off.
