Additionally, there was new information about upcoming hopefuls like Ashes of Creation and Throne and Liberty.
The highlights of the week:
- In World of Warcraft, the Radiant Echoes event for the preparation phase for the upcoming expansion The War Within has started. Until August 27, 2024, you can earn special rewards. You can find all tips and tricks regarding the event in the guide.
- The global event has not been well received by parts of the community: The pre-event to The War Within is running – and many find it really bad.
- A supposed survey from Blizzard is making the rounds on the internet. Will there be a real “WoW Classic Plus” follow-up to Cataclysm Classic?
- How is Tarisland performing a month after release? MeinMMO author Cedric Holmeier has been playing the MMORPG since launch and summarizes the status quo for you.
What else has happened? With Throne and Liberty and New World Aeternum, two important MMORPG releases are on the agenda for Amazon Games within a few weeks. MeinMMO editor Karsten analyzes why this could be a mistake.

What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- The update “Rise of the Zandalari” has been released for Cataclysm Classic. Included are the heroic dungeons Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman (via worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com).
- A player from WoW had incredible luck and secured a luxury mount at a bargain price.
- WoW The War Within is known to have a fairly short campaign. MeinMMO demon Cortyn analyzes why this is a really dumb idea.
- At the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, the class balance is still not right. Patch 7.05 improved the situation on July 31, 2024. There was also the new area “Cenote Ja Ja Gural”, epic raids, new Allagian stones, and more. - In Eorzea, the FFXIV event Firemoon Cycle starts on August 8 (via de.finalfantasyxiv.com).
- In The Elder Scrolls Online, you can earn three new companions and more in-game goodies throughout August.
- The developers of Lost Ark have presented the third roadmap for 2024. While August will be quiet, things will kick off again in September with new endgame achievements.
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- The developers of Guild Wars 2 have released a comprehensive FAQ about the new housing feature of the upcoming expansion Janthir Wilds. There you can find out how to unlock your own home or what customization options are available (via guildwars2.com).
- Once again Guild Wars 2: In Tyria, the Festival of the Four Winds has started. You can participate until August 20, 2024 (via guildwars2.com).
- In Lord of the Rings Online, quite a bit is happening these days. Firstly, Update 41 has finally been released, featuring birdwatching, updates for the knowledgeable, the hard biscuit crafting event, and much more. You can find the official German patch notes at lotro.com.
- On the 1st and 2nd, the two new legendary worlds Angmar and Mordor went live (via lotro.com).
- As part of Comic-Con in San Diego, there was new information about the next expansion of LOTRO. It is called “Legacy of Morgoth” and is supposed to continue the story of “The Song of Waves and Wind”. As part of the campaign, you will leave the city of Umbar in order to head into the desert of Harad.
- Fractured Online is offering a special deal to guilds: Those who want to try the MMORPG with their community can do so for free for seven days (via fracturedmmo.co).
- In Albion Online, the Divine Challenge is currently running, rewarding you for activities in the open world (via albiononline.com).
- The developers of SWTOR have presented the in-game events for August: Relics of the Gree and Pirate Attack (via swtor.com).
What happened with MMORPGs in development:
- The developers of Ashes of Creation have released two hours of gameplay for the Bard class. The musician is a classic supporter who strengthens allies or weakens enemies.
- The August patch for the Korean version of Throne and Liberty brings a new rune system, which is hotly debated due to its associated random factor and connection to real money currency.
- After a test of Chrono Odyssey, which focused on the combat system, the developers released some statistics (via X). Reportedly, around 70 percent of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the combat experience of the MMORPG.
- The MMORPG Brighter Shores from RuneScape creator Andrew Gower is still aiming for a launch in the third quarter of 2024. Now the profession of detective has been introduced (via X).
