A fan site for Everquest 2, which has been around for over 9 years, is closing its doors. The reasons include atmospheric disruptions with the development studio Daybreak Games.
The site EQ2 Wire has been a fan site for the Free2Play MMORPG Everquest 2 (2004) for over 9 years. In a letter to fans, the site operator Feldon explains why it is coming to an end.
Rebel and Fan Site Operator
Apparently, he took issue with being seen as a “rebel” and “complainer” by the developer and publisher Daybreak. He says: “I have always put the players first, and that has cost me again and again the support that I would have otherwise received from the Everquest 2 team.”
At the last SOE Live, the Community Council jokingly referred to him as “the chief complainer” because he repeatedly asked uncomfortable questions.
Feldon says he has consistently pointed out problems and addressed issues over the 9 years. He has also presented updates and expansions, keeping players as informed as possible.
Fan Site Chief Prefers to Judge the Quality of BBQ
However, he is not closing the site just because the relationship with the developers has worsened, but also for other reasons:
- He no longer plays Everquest 2 himself
- And he has less time because he is doing a variety of other things that now bring him a lot of joy, such as growing tomatoes or being a referee at BBQ competitions.
Who can blame him?
Fans express their regret in comments on the site. There are now over 100 comments. They commend Feldon as a contentious fighter for the interests of the players. Many also criticize developer Daybreak: Apparently, a farewell post for Feldon was deleted in the official forum. This is not well received.
