The popular Netflix series Shadow and Bone was canceled after 2 seasons. However, a fan campaign aims to save the series. In addition to a petition that has already been signed by more than 198,000 fans, posters are intended to create awareness.
Shadow and Bone – Legends of the Grisha is a fantasy series about the soldier Alina Starkov, who discovers that she possesses extraordinary powers. Now, she is supposed to save the kingdom, which is traversed by a mysterious “Shadow Fold” and is also on the brink of war with neighboring countries.
The first season of the series premiered in April 2021. The second season followed in March 2023. However, in November 2023, the series was canceled: Shadow and Bone will not receive a third season on Netflix. The spin-off Six of Crows was also canceled.
The series was very popular among fans. Shadow and Bone has a score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, both from critics and audiences. As reported by our colleagues at Filmstarts, the Netflix hit made it to the top ten immediately upon release and remained there for several weeks.
But even two months after the cancellation, the fans are not giving up and are campaigning for the show’s revival.
Petition and posters aimed at generating attention
What are the fans demanding in the petition? On November 16, 2023, fans launched a petition on change.org titled “SAVE Shadow and Bone!!!“.
With it, they aim to attract the attention of other streaming services, such as Amazon, Hulu, or HBO, “so that we can get the third season and the spin-off that we deserve!“
Additionally, fans are encouraged to continue watching Shadow and Bone on Netflix to show the streaming provider through engagement that the series is financially viable. Ideally, one should watch from beginning to end without skipping and encourage friends to do the same.
In addition to the petition, fans also funded billboards through Kickstarter, raising a total of $13,882. As of January 22, 2024, they will be visible in London and LA near Netflix locations, where they will remain for one month.
How is the petition doing? Very well. As of the time the article was written, 198,574 people had signed the petition. The campaign is nearing the next milestone of 200,000 signatures (as of January 29, 2024).
