Many players also wish for a hardcore variant in the Battle Royale mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. A series of official tweets now gives fans hope. But that will probably only come after the launch.
The hardcore playlist may not be one of the most popular modes in the multiplayer of the “Call of Duty” series, but this mode has always had a loyal fan base that swears by the additional thrill.
Will the Battle Royale variant Blackout possibly receive a hardcore mode after the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4?
This is the hardcore variant: In the hardcore variant, the battles are more intense. For example,
- aim assist such as the crosshair is reduced to a minimum or not present at all
- single hits can already be lethal
- moreover, friendly fire is activated.

Will there be a hardcore variant of Blackout?
Tweets cause confusion: As the site CharlieIntel reported, the Studio Design Director of Treyarch, David Vonderhaar, recently addressed some questions from the community via Twitter.
After a fan inquired about the hardcore mode in Black Ops 4, Vonderhaar initially replied that the mode was not yet available.

This statement initially surprised many fans. Several gaming sites – including CharlieIntel – reported afterwards that Black Ops 4 would launch completely without a hardcore mode in multiplayer. And the hardcore playlist has been a standard feature in every “Call of Duty” title for years.
Misunderstood: The corresponding tweet was subsequently deleted, and Vonderhaar corrected his statement.
In his response, which he actually provided in German initially, he referred to the Blackout mode and not the traditional multiplayer part of Black Ops 4. He wanted to clarify this before the translation failed.
Hardcore fans hope: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will indeed launch with a hardcore playlist in traditional multiplayer as expected. However, since Vonderhaar initially answered the question with a “Not yet” and later stated that this statement referred to Blackout, some fans now hope that the Battle Royale mode in Black Ops 4 may also receive a hardcore version after the launch.
So far, aside from this statement, there are no further concrete indications of this. But this hope does not seem entirely unfounded.
During the Blackout beta, the developers experimented with various playlists. And as numerous posts on Reddit show, there are quite a few fans calling for a hardcore implementation of Blackout and would be excited about this mode.
Do you also play hardcore or find this playlist unappealing? What would you think of a hardcore mode for Blackout?
